I swore that there was a better version of Dont Take It Personal rather than the low loop drum programmed version. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

As an Artist as a whole I'll pick Aaliyah. She's my fav out of the three. but Aaliyah didn't really blow up till '96 with One In A Million. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I remember seeing the video for "I Wanna Be Down" on Much Music while my family was staying at a hotel, and that day I went on a mission to buy it. I jammed the hell out of that album too. That album had modern funk jams for the '90s if you just listen to the production on it. I remember I was in a Sam Goody around 1994 just shortly after her debut was released and I remember there was some man in his 30s at the listening station just JAMMIN LIKE HELL off of "Best Friend" and "Movin On." I mean, seriously, he was just bobbing his head, couldn't keep still at the listening station. I was, like, damn ...I need to get that album. lol

I'd say Brandy.
She had a voice of an angel when she was a kid. I love all her singles from her debut. I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.

Aaliyah was the most intertesting of them all,,,come to think of it, she had the MOST fruitful career of them all.
She was naturally mature without being jaded, I loved that about her.

She was naturally mature without being jaded, I loved that about her. A maturity well beyond her years and a mystique that left you intrigued to know more. It's amazing they were able to get away with some of the material on AANBAN considering her age; but, it comes full circle when you consider who was at the helms of the project (which is another story within itself).

It's Evvy- and i'm not hatin on Brandy- my favorite jam was the remix to 'sittin up in my room'- as far as the album dropping before the sitcom- it's all a blur she was adorable as Cinderella in that Disney movie though... - my friend says that Thea or something was her first sitcom- but we can't think of the name of the annoying one where the Parkers spun from.... what was it? LOVE HARD.

I loved that movie. She did a good job in that film. I remember watching the broadcast premiere when it first aired in '97 on ABC.

I never got into that show. Or most "singer-cum-actor" sitcom vehicles. Latifah as Living Single's Khadijah notwithstanding.

Latifah as Living Single's Khadijah notwithstanding. Def the BEST 90's sitcom along with Seinfeld.

Yeah, the remix that sampled Jermaine Jackson's "Don't Take It Personal." I mentioned it earlier in the thread. Rinluv said: As an Artist as a whole I'll pick Aaliyah. She's my fav out of the three. but Aaliyah didn't really blow up till '96 with One In A Million.
Oh, I agree. I'd rank their careers in reverse order of their debut albums, with Aaliyah's being the best and Monica's being the most disappointing. Really, she only gave us a couple more good songs ("The First Night," "The Boy Is Mine") before she was basically done. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I think "For You I Will" is a bit overrated, but I meant to mention "Angel of Mine." Aaliyah's 2 albums after her debut are stone cold classics IMO, but Brandy has definitely been the most consistent. All of her albums range from good to great (Never Say Never and Aphrodisiac being my favorites). "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

The ensemble cast is second to none: Phil Hartman, Dave Foley, and Steven Root are geniuses, of course, but everybody is funny and they all have such great chemistry -- even Andy Dick is tolerable (and often hilarious)! I remember loving that but not realizing it was a jermaine jackson sample though I thought it sounded kind of jackson What do you guys think of the Tell Me If You Still Care remake on the album? I actually like it...and I used to think that and Mariah's Always Be My Baby remix with Xscape and Da Brat sounded so alike and would sing it over that until I discovered the SOS Band song a little bit later. Also I agree Brandy has the most consistent albums, I have them all and love them.

Monica had a pretty rough couple of years a while there. She had to watch as one of her ex-boyfriends committed suicide right in front of her. He locked himself in the car and as she struggled to open the door, he put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger. I'm amazed she had the strength after that to still keep making albums. It sucks watching someone die in front of you and not be able to do anything to save them. She's one strong woman. http://www.azstarnet.com/...hor/152641 [Edited 10/22/08 15:37pm] Prince Rogers Nelson

Great topic!
Miss Thang by Monica is definitely the best of the three albums. That said, Aaliyah had the most memorable run of strong radio hits. "Best Friend", "Baby" and "I Wanna Be Down" are, IMO, three of Brandy's strongest singles. In fact, I didn't really care for anything she released to radio after that until "Full Moon". One last thing: I love Monica's "All Eyez On Me" single and I'll go on record with that even if no one else does...

I love those three, but I also love just about everything released between that time, specifically "Sittin' Up in My Room," "Where Are You Now?" (not a true single, but was played a little by radio), "The Boy Is Mine," "Almost Doesn't Count" (probably my favorite Brandy song), "U Don't Know Me (Like U Used To)," and Full Moon's lead single, "What About Us." alphastreet said: What do you guys think of the Tell Me If You Still Care remake on the album? I mentioned that earlier. I love it. Both remakes are grade-A material, but I think "Tell Me If You Still Care" is better than "Let's Straighten It Out." [Edited 10/23/08 0:07am] "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

where are you now from Brandy is from the Batman Forever soundtrack
Does anyone remember Monica's Aint Nobody featuring Naughty By Nature from the Nutty Professor soundtrack? That was a good song. Also, I think Best Friend is sooo underrated, that song is just so simple and awesome, I like it better than I Wanna Be Down and Baby
