I just searched for Remy Shand on youtube and found this response "arguably the most under appreciated artist of all time. They guy plays every instrument. On paper i thought he plays 13 different instruments and used them all for his album!"..... So why does the neosoul community showed him the backdoor?? I mean a bit.. like Britney who can´t sing, play any instruments and souldn´t doing music in the first place is still here..... Even though I don't believe there's such thing as dumb ass "Neo Soul" since soul music has been and always will be FLAT OUT "soul music". But I know what you mean, so here're afew albums that represent "soul music",,at least IMO:

santessa - delirium i agree with most of the choices above and i'd like to add santessa's album. a protege of sade, produced by stuart mathewman. this is a cd of dreamy spacy soundscapes with glorious sax and underwater guitars. it's reminiscent of early sade laced with futuristic electronics and a dark mysterious brooding atmosphere. not sure if it's still in print since i read something about it being hard to find and out of print a while ago. but for anyone liking any of the albums mentioned on this thread, i'm sure "delirium" will be a welcome addition to your record collection. i agree. but having said that, i usually like music that people call such, so it helps me to dig out music or artists that i tend to like. however, some of these albums are a far cry from "soul" or whatever i think of when that term is used. nevertheless, people need an umbrella to spread over a certain stream. but in most cases, with all terms for a certain type of music, lots of people get mislabeled and piled up in boxes they don't fit into all too comfortably. if anything it puts people off from listening to artists with an open mind. i might not like what i've heard from "neosoul" but that doesn't mean that if i give "Maxwell: The Urban Hang Suite" a listen it won't rank amongst the most cool album's i've ever heard. labels work both ways, but mostly they restrict. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Explain. Because I see no problem with it. In fact, NO ONE had a problem with it when neo soul wa selling like hotcakes in the late 90s/early 00s. It seemed like everyone jumped on the "I hate the term 'Neo Soul'" bandwagon once Saadiq stated he didn't like it. The thing is, most people don't understand what the term means. It just simply means a "New" generation that's keeping "Soul Music" alive. Torch-bearers, if you will. No harm in that. Trust and believe, if Neo Soul started selling like this wack ass rap is selling, EVERY Neo Soul artist would be calling their shit "Neo Soul" and even some who aren't even considered Neo Soul would be calling it that . nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

ONLY because they feel it immediately hurts their record sales. Where were they from 1995-2001 with this outrage? Nowhere. Why? Not by any means. It's very typical in electronic music. So one could draw the conclusion that if the genre definition is a new one, the artists might be more reluctant to it (than the case would be with, say, "jazz").
