Z Cult Fave/David Bowie/Time David Bowie is one of my all time favorite artists. Big influence on me musically. And one of my all time fave songs by him and by anyone for that matter is his song "Time". Taken from his "Aladdin Sane" album from 73, it has some of Bowie's best lyrics. Bowie makes reference to the late drummer of the New York Dolls (another band that I dig) Billy Murcia when he sings "Billy Dolls". My favorite part of the song though is when the late great guitarist Mick Ronson plays his very beautiful and melodic lead towards the end of the song. I would hear a little of that "majestic-ness"in Queen's Brian May's playing which became May's "sound". Anyway, I've loved Bowie's "Time" ever since I was 9 years old. Who else hear digs this song? i love this song. it's always a showstopper when he plays it live in concert.
i think the version he performed in the "ziggy stardust" concert film will always be the best live recording of that song.

It's so completely camp and dramatic and over the top, how can you not love it? Sometimes I think it's my fave on Aladdin.

it's one of my favorites and least favorites from that album. i really get off on how over the top it is sometimes. other times, i feel like it's just beating me over the head.
a favorite to sing-along to, though.

This is an outtake from the "1980 Floorshow" from 73. This is a bangin' performance by David. He's singing live to a tracked recording of the song from the album. You can hear the lyrics much better than from the album. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Brilliant! His look from this period makes him SPITTING IMAGE of the wife of one of my Dad's dental partners when we were growing up!!!
I only saw him live on the Glass Spiders tour, and there was NOTHING good about that... "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

I saw Bowie on the Serious Moonlight tour out here in L.A during his Let's Dance album. He was great. Great show. Bowie was soooo professional and he had serious material to play. As popular as the Let's Dance album was, whenever he played ANYTHING from the 70's and God forbid anything from the Ziggy album, it was ON! The crowd was singing everything word for word. He didn't have a weak song in the set. Great show. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Im not that intrested in seeing live anymore, i dont think hes got the touch. However, if i could travel back in time in 72/73, that would be awesome! Im thinking about seeing him though next time he visits sweden, its still better than nothing. Freedom is to trust that you're doing what you must according to your lust

I don't think I could rate his 70s album like that. Sure I listen to some more than others but it's also really a mood thing. I can only say that 'Low' is first and 'Station to Station' propably second.

One was a recorded during a transition period (Live) and the other has too much studio remixing on it. Ziggy Stardust The Motion Picture is the best live album from that period IMO. Massive Bowie Fan too. Seen him about 6 times although not for a few years now. Here's my favourites from the 70s. The Lodger is number 10 but it's still a great album in places. 1= Young Americans - ***** 1= Aladdin Sane - ***** 3. Ziggy Stardust - ***** 4. Hunky Dory - ***** 5. Diamond Dogs - ****1/2 6. Low - **** 7. Station To Station - **** 8. "Heroes" - **** 9. The Man Who Sold The World - **** 10. Lodger - ***1/2 [Edited 9/12/08 3:31am]
