Is Kid Rock a "real" artist? He first came out doing hip hop, then rap-rock and now he seems to be country/rock. Can he actually sing? Is he really a good musician? I heard his latest album sold really well so I guess people are digging his new music.

He stared off as a rapper, failed at that, then started doing the rap/rock thing which proved to be successful for him. Now, it seems that he's into Country. I guess he didn't want to get boxed into the whole rap/rock thing or any particular genre. I think it was a smart move on his part. I like some of his songs though. "Only God Knows Why" and "Picture" being my faves, really love those two. "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

Kid Rock's VERY smart. He knows what sells and he does it in a way that doesn't seem like it's pandering. I'm not really a huge fan, but I appreciate him and definitely have respect for him and what he does. He was a rapper in Detroit, but apparently he always played guitar too. That first album he did that hit big had strains of country and rock on it too, so him going more of a country/southern rock route isn't that big of a surprise. As for "All Summer Long," I play the country circuit pretty regularly, and Sweet Home Alabama is a staple out there, but this song's pretty popular too. Really, the 3 chords that Sweet Home uses have been used in a billion songs, but it's all in the way you play them that makes them sound like that.

I love his new album. I made a post about it but no one responded. Its filled with old bluesy 50's soul, rap, rock, country and pop. He has gospel tinges in it too. Very good. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I know he messed up his image in the beginning, however this album is really really good and has great musicianship. Im suprised at how much you guys dog him, he has nothing but real instrumentation on his album and clever songwriting Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Because he feels like it. I don't personally dig Kid Rock's music, but if he feels like switching up the genres, why shouldn't he?

The story goes more or less like this: Neil Young released Southern Man, which was a criticism of the racism he saw being enacted in the southern US. The members of Lynyrd Skynyrd took offense to what they saw as a generalization of all white, southern men -by a Canadian, no less -and wrote Sweet Home Alabama in retaliation. Some listeners have perceived their song as having pro-racist connotations, some do not. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
