Even Prince had alot of respect for Cynthia. He thanks her in the liner notes of his second album. He thanks her in his "Dirty Mind" album also. She really did a lot for his career back then. She deserves a lot more respect than MTV because she was there for him since the very beginning of his career. Andy is a four letter word.

vainandy said: The hell with "Rolling Stone", my favorite magazine back in the day was "Right On". What are some of your favorite memories of the magazine? Mine are.....
The picture of Prince laying on a bed with a box fan in the background. Prince, during the "I Wanna Be Your Lover" era, talking crazy shit about how he'd like to breed a dog with a cat and see what the result would be. Rick James singing at a prom at the height of his career. First of all, I can't remember why he was singing at a prom. Maybe it was a favor for a relative or something. Anyway, he had cussed all night on the stage and pissed the school off. He even asked one of the boys in the audience if he was going to get some pussy from the girl that he was dancing with. The whole Rick James vs. Prince feud and Rick raising hell about Prince during these years. The drawings of musical artists in the back of the magazine which were sent in by readers. The pen pal section. All the latest news on the acts of the day such as Shalamar, Lakeside, Con Funk Shun, The Dazz Band.....hell, all the great acts of the day. The picture of an artist in the middle of the magazine that was kinda like a little mini poster. . . . [Edited 9/12/08 14:43pm] Sh!t, I grew up on Right On! magazine back in the early 70s(during the J5 heyday), and I stayed with it right through the 80s. My favorite issues were the ones with pics of Solid Gold dancer Darcel Wynne. Got dayum, she was fine! [Edited 9/15/08 15:03pm]

I remember what vain said about the dog/cat thing. If I'm not mistaken, I think he said he was actually trying to breed them. That was in the same article where Cynthia said she met him somewhere and he showed up wearing shorts and boots. He did say he was trying to breed them. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Black Beat was always my favorite.I loved reading their record reviews and the little "gossip" section at the beginning Remember when they would tell some juicy gossip but not tell you the name of the celebrity?! LOL
Rock N' Soul was the best mag for new information. They always had the exclusive details on new albums (and song lyrics printed in the back).I still have a few late-80s issues of that mag.I also have the 1986 special issue devoted to Prince and his proteges. It came out in the summer of 1986.

We need a scan or two! I'll see if I can find it It contains alot of interesting articles. There's an unflattering review of a Sheila E. concert....a "Prince Vs.Michael Jackson" fan forum....a Vanity interview.....a Dez Dickerson interview.....articles on The Family and Mazarati....a Morris Day interview that I really liked alot... Rock N' Soul: Some of the songs on the Time's three albums had fairly explicit lyrics. Will any of your future albums follow suit? Morris: "To write like that,I have to consciously think "How can I make this nasty?".I could do it,but I don't think it's necessary to write about everything I do in private."

seriously? Wow! I've never even heard or seen this group before...what was their hit song?! I had to find the info from allmusic. Wikipedia had nothing. http://www.allmusic.com/c...qy5ld6e~T1 Initially called after the mysterious green matter that weakened Superman, this Los Angeles-based band consisted of keyboardist Kerry Gordy (Berry Gordy's son), drummer Lenny Greene (who replaced Chico Ross [Diana Ross' brother]), bassist Cliff Liles (Raynoma Gordy-Singleton's son), Benny Medina (vocals & bongos), and Larry Robinson (guitar). They built a small club reputation around Los Angeles before Gordy-Singleton aka Miss Ray decided to hone and rehearse them into recording readiness. Motown liked the submitted tape enough to sign them to a deal in 1978. Motown was grooming Switch, another self-contained band around the same time, and Kryptonite faced stiff competition for marketing dollars, not to mention all the other Motown artists. A legal problem arose when Superman's creators refused to let the hard soul band use the name they created, so they became Apollo. Miss Ray produced their self-titled Apollo in 1979 for Gordy Records, which spawned "Astro Disco" (originally titled "Krypto Disco"), the LP's sole single. They appeared on Soul Train and other dance programs, and got publicity in the popular music magazines. Things were rolling; they embarked on Japan gig -- two months at a club -- and looked forward to working on a second album, but Motown abruptly pulled the plug and ended any aspirations Apollo or Miss Ray might have had. Who knows why, maybe Berry wanted his son to go to college? Apollo tweaked their lineup and re-emerged as Kagny & the Dirty Rats in the '80s minus Benny Medina, who became a well-respected record executive.
