Z Cult Favorite/Mick Ronson/Angel No. 9 One of my favorite lead guitarists is Mick Ronson. I of course first became hip to Ronson through being Bowie's lead guitarist during Bowie's probably most well known period. I loved all of Ronson's work that he did while with Bowie and also Ronson's solo work as well. A fave of mine is a track from Ronson's second solo album "Play Don't Worry" from 75. And the track is "Angel No.9". A beautiful song written by C.Fuller. Ronson's guitar playing as on all of his recordings, is fantastic. Great chord progressions and great leads as well. The whole album is good but to me, this is the stand out track. Anybody hip to this by Mick Ronson? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I only know him through his work with Bowie. I know he had a great part in his music back then. Also in arranging and producing, 'Hunky Dory' for example. But personally, his style of lead guitar playing isn't really my kind of thing. I'm sure he was amazing, just not my style. Still worlds ahead of the god-awful noodling that Reeves Gabrels (and Bowie, I guess) apparently calls guitar playing.

I'm not familiar with Mick's solo stuff, but I love everything he did with Ian Hunter. This one is from Ian's first solo album:

Not really a fan, but I can dig you diggin' him.
I like Dean DeLeo, from Stone Temple Pilots. Not a flashy, innovating guitarist, but I like his chordal voicings and he's got some jazzer chops as well - he's just a good rock guitarist.

You, my friend, have NEVER let me down in any post that you have done on this site. Mick Ronson is AWESOME. Brian May once said that if he had to choose someone to replace him in Queen it would have been Mick. Am I the only one who hears a touch of Mick Ronson in Slash's playing? Especially if you listen to this track.I really wish that he and Bowie had got to do a PROPER comeback before he died.

Ironically, I mentioned Brian May in the other thread I did on the Bowie song "Time". I said I definately hear some Ronson in May's playing and I strongly believe May was greatly influenced by Ronson's playing on the song "Time". SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz.
