See I dont get that. WHy run through it live and then just play backing tracks in the real show???

Because they have a lot of things to contend with during an actual show, primarily crowd noise.

Ummmmm.... crowd noise is something all concerts have to contend with. That is not a reason to lip synch! Sound design should be able to make the sound come through whether live or pre-recorded.

More importantly, it's shocking she rehearses it live but then doesn't bother to perform it live?! I mean why bother singing it when no one can even hear it??

Janet is one of those artists who gives you the whole experience. Would I be interested in seeing her standing in one place singing Miss You Much? Hellz no. So she sings over a backing track while doing the whole dance including the chair routine. I mean, really - every major star who dances has used backing tracks, including Michael Jackson who we all know can sing his ass off live and then some. I can completely understand Janet using backing tracks in the context of the show What I don't understand is someone like Mariah Carey, who just stands there, lip synching her performances.

Yes I know about "those artists" and I think it's bullshit. I believe Janet CAN sing which why it bothers me that she lipsynchs and then it's no better than fake artists like Britney or (ughhh) Hilary Duff.

And Mariah mainly lipsynchs on TV. I've seen her tours and she sings mostly live now.

But like I said, there is NO Excuse to lip synch at a "live concert". Either get in better aerobic shape or choreograph it so you you dance during the instrumental parts.

[quote[The music at the concert was a mix of live and pre-recorded. Yeah, the band was great, and it was live, but it was not responsible for all of the music
[/quote]

Then why bother having the band at all? I know Mariah does that too.... I find it very annoying.

That was cool. I wish she'd do the whole show singing live. Who cares if it's not pitch perfect every note. It's better this way. (though I think the bg vocals were taped)

i never thought janet was a good singer. i think she carries a tune well and i'm sure vocal training helped. but i laugh when people talk about how strong her voice is, i never saw her voice as a strength. i just think that she's excellent in everything else, hits songs, the dancing, costumes, stage production and as long as she got her mic and can carry a tune then she could get by.

Well put.

VOICES CARRY: I"m not trying to diss her. I love Janet and now that you've posted all this i'm kind of regretting not buying my tickets via a presale optty I had for MSG.

I just want her to sing live, and use real BG singers and a band. I prefer a live recreation even if it's not perfect, rather than using recorded tracks to sound like the record.

I don't expect her to belt it out, just to sing like she does, and do the rest of what she does as mentioned above.

It always amazes me with all artists that do this and use a "band" and "BG singes"..... what a great gig but BORING gig it must be stand there and "fake background sing" ! smile

Man I'm getting to this thread late but I am now officially excited about this tour! I can't believe that I'm going to see her in person next month. She's been my "Holy Grail" for performers I wanted to see after I accomplished my goal with Prince now it's going to actually happen! I'm amped up! Janet looks great and O love this setlist. I'm going to have a blast in Jersey!!!
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Alright, I've been convinced. I just got my ticket to see Janet! This will be my second Janet Jackson concert and only my third concert overall.

Janet is one artist I don't mind spending money to see because she really puts on a show.

I see, a fellow non-concert-goer.

I don't avoid them on purpose, I just wait for someone to give me a reason to go!

I should add this is the first time I actually paid for a concert. I'm usually a friend's tag-a-long because he/she didn't want to go alone. Now, I'm going alone. Go figure!

U2 had a stage like this in 2001, a catwalk that came out to a point (like a heart) and I was inside. That's the kinda view I would love to have for Janet. I imagine that the view outside of the catwalk is great too... making it like another "first row"

I'm soo excited!!! excited I can't wait for October 7 now. The outfit is definitely different and interesting and she does look quite 'healthy' in it, but if it don't jiggle when she moves than it's probably mostly muscle.
Janet's always been pretty hippy and at least I don't see her rocking any camel toe in it barf , so let her be thick as much as she wants to be.

I'm lovin' the mohawk and it looks like she's having fun. I agree that I prefer when artists sing with actual background singers instead of backing tracks and I don't agree with lip-syncing because you can take breathing classes to learn proper voice control, but it's Janet. She's always been more a preformer than an singer and I don't expect her to come out all Beyonce all of a sudden. Has she ever not used a backing track? It's meant to be fun and entertaining and at least she sings WITH the backing tracks instead of just turning off the microphone and mouthing the words...now I really hate that shit.

I wish she had included "What About?"....that's my fave Janet Track. But, it's okay, she has 'If' and 'Anytime, Anyplace'....so I'll be alright. cool

Michael has vocals on that song. I was hoping she would keep his vocals in. "You can barely stand it BABEH!" lol

I think this was from when it was recorded.
