And besides, I think he is blessed with an incredible voice, so he can make an average song, good, a good song great and great song the stuff of legend. I know he does, that's why I said pale, lol. He was so good! LMAO! Just come out and say it. A whiter shade of pale no doubt helps him get viewed better and earlier. They should all be inducted together. Anything else is ridiculous. If you want to put Smokey in twice -- fine, but only once by himself? Crazy. All one has to do is try to look for the catalogs of several black artists that are legends -- like Gladys Knight and the Pips or Bo Diddley to name but a tiny few -- to note that the playing field is not always level. Out of print. Out of print. Good luck next time, fool! Not enough profit here. The more you sell, usually the easier it is to obtain your music and easier therefore to get into the R&R Hall of Fame. That's why I would always argue for putting together a nominating committee that was so diverse in every aspect of music that's happened the last 50 years that it would make one's head spin. But in their defense, they're more diverse than just about any other award show or honor I see out there in the mainstream. And more diverse than what I often see here at this very site. Also the whiter artists that often sold well that participated in art rock or punk or metal are not exactly overwhelmingly known and/or favored. They need more color of all types. But it's not a perfect world yet, so I'll just keep trusting that over time the truth comes out. ===== [Edited 9/13/08 1:33am] | |
