curioso

Excluding 'Merry Xmas Everybody' and traditional carols

1. 'Last Christmas' by Wham (even though it's more a love song than a Christmas song)
2. 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday' by Wizard
3. 'White Christmas' by Bing Crosby

Ah, the beginning of fall (season), and another early Christmas thread.

My choice would be 'What Child Is This?" by the Vince Guaraldi Trio. It captures the joy and melancholy of the holiday, from both a spiritual and cultural standpoint.

Others would be "What Christmas Means to Me," and Donny Hathaway's classic.

I also like Vanessa Williams' cover of "What Child Is This?"

Since you said "the greatest", I would say "This Christmas" by Donny, but there are so many that I love.

Now, for me, it doesn't feel like Christmas until I hear "Silent Night" from The Temptations. It is my 2nd favorite Christmas song.

Other favorites:
Sleigh Ride - TLC
Silent Night - En Vogue
Give Love On Christmas Day - Temptations (I like their version better than the others)
Up On The House Top - Jackson 5
Santa Clause Goes Straight To The Ghetto - James Brown
Merry Christmas - Ohio Players
Santa Clause Is Coming To Town - Jackson 5
Someday At Christmas - Stevie Wonder
O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings To Zion - Stevie Wonder and Take 6
In Love At Christmas - Kelly Price ft. Mary Mary
Last Christmas - Wham!
Sleigh Ride - Alexander O'neal
My Gift To You - Alexander O'neal

Christmas isn't Christmas without Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas."

But my personal favorites are Dianne Reeve's "Christ Child's Lullaby" and Sting's "Gabriel's Message."

My top 3 favs are...

O Come All Ye Faithful
Ave Maria
Little Drummer Boy

love is a fate resigned
memories mar my mind
love it is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
and laughed at by the Gods
and now the final frame

nod

Vince Guaraldi and George Winston are the way to go in the Renner household for Christmas music.
