Robin Thicke can't get the cover of Vibe So Robin Thicke was interviewd by a media source recently and he gave his take on why VIBe came at him with some racistish bull about why he can’t be on the cover of the mag:
Q: What is it like trying to break the color line from the other side? Thicke: When I did a recent interview with Vibe magazine I asked, “Why can’t I get the cover? This is a magazine I love. If there’s one magazine that I’d want to be on the cover of, it’s Vibe.” Their response was they don’t have white artists on the cover; that the only white artist they’ve had on the cover was Eminem. I guess if that’s what it is, it is what it is. And I respect that because I live in a house with a black woman. I won’t use the word “racism.” I will say it’s a tough — but rewarding — fight. I look at Mary J. Blige, somebody who has had only a few pop hits and yet has changed culture, generated new sounds and inspired leagues of artists. She’s now a worldwide phenomenon. And it’s because of what she stood for; she never gave up. She kept making great music, pouring her heart out to people. You can’t always expect people to be as color-blind or open-minded as you want. What you can do is keep giving your heart and soul, like Bob Marley did. His music became so overwhelmingly loving; it was a relentless love in a sense. Keep beating them down with love and they can’t stop you. http://theybf.com/

If Elvis were dead,
he'd be rolling in his grave right now.

VIBE is a piece of shit magazine now anyway, im not really a thicke fan anyway, but their comment was stupid, sorry, plain stupid. So Eminem's cover also had a pass, or is it because of his "gangsta" image and thats the only one Vibe wants to promote? Vibe needs to check itself in the mirror and exactly who its giving covers too, if you wanna pull a whole "standards" thing than start checking the images of the artists you put, how they treat women, what crimes they have committed etc... The thing is they say "we've come a long way" and the truth be told we havent, we are more seperated now than ever. There is some serious double talk and standards going on. There was also a similar up-roar about this kind of subject from a "mens" magazine that is geared towards black males, and always there is a black woman on the cover, well dudes wrote in that they wanted a Latina issue and a "white girl" issue and the magazine did it because of the demand, well they get bombarded by "black females" that this wasnt fair etc... are we color blind or not?
I mean think of the 70's and 80's, look at the things that happend. Hall and Oates on RB radio, Stevie Wonder on Rock radio, Elton John on Soul Train and having a Number RB hit, i mean NONE of this shit could happen today. Madonna almost made the cover of Vibe in 1995.She and her then-boyfriend Dennis Rodman were photographed for a cover story in which she interviewed him,but Vibe chickened out and cancelled it.

MONEY is why Justin, Deniro, Eminem and Gwen were allowed. Robin Thicke, isn't exactly mainstream compared to those.

Justin - the blue eyed soul man. I think Robin Thicke is more Blue eyed soul than Justin.

Justin Timberlake, Eminem, Gwen Stefani (WITH PHARRELL) and Robert Deniro (WITH 50 CENT) would all each sell more copies than a Robin cover.

Blacks get away with more than a few double standards in popular culture...if Time or Rolling Stones said some shit like this....Al Sharpton and the good Reverend Jackson would be all over it! Fucking unbelievable that he would let them get away with this. And the only reason Thicke bowed down to them is because he is on some white guilt bullshit. 1 over Jordan...the greatest since

You don't understand. Robin wants an expanded black audience like the kind Tenna Marie & Michael McDonald have enjoy in their careers.

He doesn't need to be on the cover of a crap mag like Vibe anyway. They don't even have the guts to tell him the truth of why they wouldn't put him on the cover and have interviewers who don't know the history of the mag regardless of their lame choices. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

the reason these 'black' magazines were created in the 1st place was because there wasnt any mainstream mags reppin us,whats the difference in vibe only using white artists with major crossover appeal for their cover from rolling stone or many others only using major crossover black artists for theirs?

You won't see Jill Scott or Erykah Badu on the cover of People, Elle or Rolling Stone magazine. Why? Because they don't have mass mainstream(white) appeal.
White mags put black people on the cover that have mass crossover appeal, such as Beyonce and Rihanna. Anyway, Vibe magazine is still in business? [Edited 8/30/08 17:31pm]

Well, since Vibe actually HAS had white people on the cover, the argument is moot. Dude is just a lame and doesn't have enough of an edge to be of the interest of Vibe's target market. I'm sure there are quite a few black artists that haven't made the cover of Vibe, either.
That's like Bryan Adams complaining that he didn't make the cover of Metal Edge magazine. No shit, sherlock! Dude needs to step his game up. Next thing you know, he'll be wondering why he's not on the cover of Black Enterprise magazine and why he didn't get nominated for a gawd damn Essence award for being a black inspiration. F*ck it. While we're at it, why don't we give this mutha f*cka a Trumpet Award for best gospel song, too? Just because this mofo is stickin' a sista and did a lame ass duet with 50 Cent AND a lame ass duet with Lil' Wayne doesn't "entitle" him to any magazine cover. I also read that Xtina got axed from the October cover. It had nothing to do with her race, though. They gave Mimi Valdez and her staff the boot and everything that they did got dumped as well. Christina was just a casualty of internal conflicts. I'm sure she'll be okay. She would have actually made the cover. They finished the shoot and everything. [Edited 9/2/08 1:27am]

That sounds like a much more valid reason than the one they gave him I mean, if someone's not qualified for the job, why say it's their race? [Edited 9/2/08 11:37am] My Legacy
