Why are all of these washed-out R&B wannabes always trying to make Thriller or Purple Rain all over again? It's really getting tired...

Ahh, of course. Yes. Almost instantly recognizable as an homage to one of her inspirations. A fun song, but it makes me long to hear the original.

There is nothing to change because it is reality. It is a Prince rip off and that was the last time RnB had any crossover appeal (in plain English sold a lot of records) which is what the music industry would like to see today. RnB and Rap are the worst selling genres of music today. How did this happen because of non-talented 3 cd having and gone artist just like Mario and perhaps Chris Brown.

No bands, No creativity and no thinking outside of the box.

I cannot believe anyone over the age of 25 would think this kid has any talent beyond dancing like Mike Jackson but maybe that is the problem with RnB and Rnb fans no thinking is been done out of the box at all.

You call almost everything a Prince rip off.
Chris Brown does what he is hired to do. He sings. He dances. He's not hired to go into the studio and play 6 instruments. Your thinking is dated. The real music business in 2008 doesn't work that way. Its not that simple and you don't seem to understand that.
If you think that there hasn't been any good music since Prince then you have no defense for being obsessed and you obviously have a limited perception of what good music is. "Crossover?" Rap IS what people are crossing over to. Where have you been? Shit has changed. There's noting any of us can do about it. Rap is international and sells more than pretty much any other genre. Its not what I or a lot of others would have liked to see but its trhe way it is. You seem to have problems with seeing reality. There is "out of the box" R&B. Its on MySpace and youtube. Go look for it; its not going to come to you. Hell, N.E.R.D. and Gnarles Barkley are out of the box. OutKast is out of the box. They're around; you probably just don't like them because they are not affiliated with Prince.

-----
I can only read so far before I wonder about what is going on in your head.

I only say people rip off Prince when they do. Some artist actually manage to suck on their own without ripping off anyone.

"If you think that there hasn't been any good music since Prince then you have no defense for being obsessed and you obviously have a limited perception of what good music is. "

I never say nor do I think there has not been any good music since Prince.
(so you can stop typing that b.s. at anytime) What I can say for a fact is you have not had big selling artists since the late 1980's and I think it is due to the quality of the music. Young people have better things to do with their money and their time and the low sales bear this out.

Rap or shit-hop is the genre selling the least these days. The Lil Wayne Cd was the frist to go Plantinum in over a year. The only person out of touch with reality is you. I post plenty of articles about this topic but I guess you are too much of a know it all to read and no the truth.

N.E.R.D. and Gnarles Barkley are out of the box.

[b]They suck ass and it tells me a lot about your taste. I actually like "Outkast" but one group in RnB doing something different is not going to help the sorry state of our music.

Oh, CHANNELING, not Challenging. I clicked this thread because I thought it was ridiculous for CB to be trying to musically challenge Prince....

falloff I know, right? I've seen this thread a bunch of times, but today was the first time I realized it was "channeling" and not "challenging"! See, spelling matters.

rolleyes Gnarls Barkley are at least trying to do something different....trying to elevate R&B music to a higher level. They deserve credit for that.

That lone statement disqualifies you from being equipped to have an informed conversation about the state of music. Call the professor, Michelle J. Fox. Your time machine awaits.

My taste is far beyond your scope. I don't close my mind to entire genres and say ridiculous things like there hasn't been any good music since the 80s and then blame it on "quality" rolleyes. You're stuck in a time warp.

"That lone statement disqualifies you from being equipped to have an informed conversation about the state of music."

The lone statement that happens to be true and based on facts that you can easily verify. eek

"hasn't been any good music since the 80s and then blame it on "quality" rolleyes. You're stuck in a time warp"

I never said that "has not been any good music since the 80's" You said that not me. I said you do not have the big sales you had in the 80's. I am not a big fan of a lot of music from the 90s but I would not say it was all bad just not big sellers.

I am not stuck in a time warp. I like what I like and I am glad I do not live in a little fantasy world like you do where one can not even deal with the facts as they are.

Music sales have been down this whole decade and if you think the music industry has sustained those lose because the music did not suck ass you need a reality check.

I never said I only liked P's music. Work on your reading skills before you get into a discussion. No one over the age of 12 could possibly think that RnB music is about anything innovative at this point and time.
