'00s song of the day: Janet / Someone To Call My Lover (2001)

/ / / / / APPRECIATION

Janet / Someone To Call My Lover (2001)
Janet / Someone To Call My Lover (2001)

[ This track brings back great memories for me. I used to really love her around the time this came out. Takes me back to the days of counting down her album release on the dry erase board outside of my dorm room. *smile* Buying the All For You single between lectures. Reminds me how much her music meant to me. Bright-sounding, sunshiningly optimistic track. ]

I love it too, it's the perfect summer song and definitely paved the way for people this decade bringing back drum n bass/freestyle.

I really wanted trust a try to be the next single and thought this was too safe, but I ended up loving it

Have you heard the remixes of it on the single? Too awesome! I love the dancy one and the velvet mix.

I really liked the Total '80s Mix of this track. It did the original justice and was highly danceable.

The So So Def remix with JD was boring to me. I tolerated it, wasn't all over it.

Her last real smash at CHR/Pop. This reached #3 at that format in the summer of 2001. She hasn't had a Top 10 hit since (same goes for the Hot 100).

Are you no longer enjoying Janet's music?

The summer of 2001 was great. It was an innocent time for me.

Plus, 9/11 hadn't happened yet! Aaliyah hadn't died yet. :-/

It was the calm before things got darker in America.

Damita Jo was the last Janet album I was honestly into without feeling like I was forcing myself to like it.

I like this song a lot. I don't like the So So Def Remix but the orignal ROCKS! I remember it being all over radio and MTV/BET/VH1. Those were the days. music
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Is that the remix with the synth stabs from "Planet Rock"? If so I love that mix too. Who did it?

One of her best tracks. It's so diffrent and cute, best tack from the album.
She should really get back with Jimmy and Terry.

This is my least favorite from All for You, but I love the album! It's my second favorite Janet album, and in my top 40 of all time!

I'm sad to hear that your appreciation for Janet seems to have faded a bit. sad

I didn't care so much for the JD remix... until I heard it CHOPPED AND SCREWED!

I think it is cool that Janet and Jermaine hooked up after he remixed this song about the possibilities of meeting her love.

whistle Maybe will meet at a club shrug
Maybe he'll mix this dub shrug

lmfao that's fun!

I wanted janet and JD to work together when he was putting out awesome beats for mariah, chante moore, mary j. blige, destiny's child in the late 90's cause I could hear some J&T influence (maybe it's just me); however once they did on that STCML remix, I was very disappointed.

For some reason, I never really got into this song. It´s ok, but Janet´s got definately some better ones.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."
