It's a good ballad that got lost in the shuffle of a bad movie (and overall, crap soundtrack). Probably should have been the single over that cover of "American Pie", which makes most people shudder.

I like American Pie! And yes, i know the original!

But I dislike Time Stood Still. Well, dislike might be too harsh, let's say I find it boring.

I'm not one of those people that thinks she fucked up the original, which I didn't care that much for. The song was just sort of blah for me. But "Time Stood Still". while not a great Madonna ballad up there with "Live To Tell", it has some eomtional punch to it.

"American Pie" is one of the worst things Madonna has ever recorded (and her worst single bar none IMO). I hate the original, but she found a way to make that shit even worse! disbelief

"Time Stood Still" is OK. It should've been the single.

touched

I wish "Time Stood Still" had been tacked on to the vinyl pressing of 2000's Music instead of "American Pie".

Despair, regret, and tenderness
Is what I feel for you
I loved you from the very start
What else could I do

You read my mind, you made me cry
Time stood still
And now I know the reasons why
Time stood still

[Chorus:]

Maybe you're the next best thing to happen
All the things we might have been

A flame becomes a fading light
That burns inside my heart
And like a castle in the sand
It had to fall apart

You made me laugh, you gave me hope
It's over now
Our happiness went up in smoke
It's over now

When I hear songs like this,it makes me wish that Madonna would record more ballads. Many of her ballads have a haunting sadness to them.

For me, Vadge has set a high standards for great pop ballads ('Crazy For You,' 'Love Tried to Welcome Me,' 'Rain,' etc) that this one is sub par. It feels rushed together, and just like a re-hash of the far superior 'Power of Goodbye.' Sort of like 'Die Another Day' is a redo of the far better 'Music.' And she can't quite hit that high note on the chorus - it's a little painful to hear.

That said, I like it much better than Music's big ballad 'I Deserve it.'
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Despite her limited vocal ability, there is a melancholy in madonna's voice that even some of the worlds finest singers cannot replicate. Whenever people crticise her voice, whilst i agree on a technical level she cant compete with many, she has this beautiful sadness in her tone that i can relate to above vocal showboating.

From Borderline to Crazy For You to Live To Tell to Promise To Try to Something to Remember to Bad Girl to I Want You to The Power Of Goodbye to Gone to Xstatic Process. Her ability to emote on record is much unerrated.

I love I Deserve it - a highlight of the reocrd for me. I think you're totally right in saying its something of a lame Power of Goodbye copy, and i also think it would be out of place on MUsic. It has the ROL sound stamped all over it - its the track (along with Runaway Lover) that confirmed for me she was right to ditch William Orbit.

she's always got a darkness to that seems to evade most other pop acts. i think it started with the deep loss she's never gotten over and has just grown over time due to her isolation as the world's biggest star.

Don't forget Mer Girl. It's one of the most disturbing songs she has done.

nod There is a certain sadness in her voice which makes her ballads all the more emotional and heartfelt. For the longest time,"Bad Girl" was my favorite Madonna song. You can feel the pain in her voice. It's a shame that she doesn't record more ballads these days.

"Time Stood Still" is FABULOUS! One of her top 5 ballads, in my opinion! I actually think Madonna improved "American Pie", and it's still shit. That's how horrible I think the original is.

I think Music is pretty bad by Madonna standards, but Ray of Light is superb!

'Music' is a quirky little album...probably the most experimental album she's ever done.It took me awhile to really get into it and to understand where she was trying to go,musically.I enjoy it but I don't think it's as good as the last two albums ('Confessions' and 'Hard Candy').

I think Music is the worst album of this decade. Anyone who just bought because he likes the single must have been dissaponted!

I would have agreed had Hard Candy not been such a disaster. Still, I'd put Music in the bottom 3 of her career.

I think the Mirwais cuts are fantastic but dont really feel the Orbit cuts, Gone aside. Liquid Love would have imporved the album - but didnt really fit sound wise. I think if it had the consistency of the standard set by the mirwais tracks it would be a great album.

and yet I would call "Don't Tell Me" and "Music" a couple of her best singles EVAR.

I love Hard Candy. Music is pretty solid to my ears, but the album's worth it for "Nobody's Perfect" alone. The album isn't spectacular, but it's more consistent than True Blue, Erotica, Bedtime Stories, and American Life, which all have lackluster tracks and would have to be my bottom 4.

I adore "Liquid Love." She should've made room for that one, overall sound be damned!

I like Liquid Love as well. She should have used it in favor for Runaway Lover. Amazing is a cheap Beautiful Stranger. I wonder if thee are some really cool Mirwais tracks out there from that period.

These are the songs that I like on Music:

"Music"
"Impressive Instant"
"Don't Tell Me"
"What It Feels Like For A Girl"
"Paradise (Not For Me)"
"Gone"

The remaining songs are okay....nothing special.I agree with those of you who think that "Liquid Love" should have been on the album.

I like these five. (I omitted "Don't Tell Me") I think the first two are fantastic dance tracks and the last three are quiet and gentle. Funny to hear the comments about this album. For some reason, I play it constantly!

How has everyone heard "Liquid Love"? When did it leak? Recently? I hate being on this slow connection!
