Behind the scenes on Janet's tour They aren't giving anything away, but it is pretty cool to see Janet being "real" and not putting on this persona. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Well, the music buying public is tired of him. He hasn't made a hit in a while. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I've realized more and more that he's hurting janet's career. Janet was never ghetto fab and it sounds like she's trying to be with surrounding herself around him, and people are missing out on the good songs she does have right now. I feel bad for her in the clips, she's nothing like them and all shy.
She's her own entity and doesn't need a troll like him to be all over her shit. Why isn't she with her dancers and it's all about her like in the old days? [Edited 8/15/08 8:36am]

The Miss You Much chairs are visible in the video. The headspins look like they'll be part of the So Excited routine.
The drummer is Jill Scott's fiancee and worked with Janet on The Velvet Rope Tour. Janet looks great. Very [i]Velvet Rope]/i]-ish. [Edited 8/15/08 8:43am]

I'm going to get a lot of heat for this, but he's too ghetto for her, meaning in a stereotypical way. I wouldn't have said that if she was with someone like eddie murphy, denzel washington, or heck even will smith. They are their own entities and would have continued doing so instead of jumping all over her shit like JD is doing. JD has accomplished a lot too in shit-hop, but he must not be famous enough or else he wouldn't be associating himself with janet more than he needs to, the way rappers and shit hoppers all can't do a track without 10 million producers and cameos all over the place. yes, with her sex songs and carnival performances right? Well I would agree with you if she didn't try something different in a good way on Discipline IMO. I was getting tired of her around DJ and 20 YO though I did like some things about it, and hated others.

[Edited 8/15/08 12:45pm] I know what you mean but I sooo can't imagine her with Denzel or Will. And Eddie would have her recording in the house and filming her videos in one of the spare rooms 'cause you know he's not letting her out the house. You cannot alienate a whole part of your audience, especially the ones that accepted you most. Regardless of who's decision, it just was a bad one, and also the blaming the label for everything is "old", if its that much of a problem, dont sign, i mean you are JANET you've got the name, put the records out yourself if you are that "worried" about promo and respect. Sorry, but Janet's had a more consistent track record at Urban and Rhythmic formats than she has at Pop. And, more importantly, a more consistent track record on the R&B charts than on the Hot 100. In terms of supporting her through the hard times, it's that audience. Not a bad decision to sign with Def Jam considering their promotional machine. Janet did not update her own team, however. The promotional strategies for Janet's album and Mariah's album (post-release) have been completely fucked. Totally wasted potential for both projects. [Edited 8/15/08 14:41pm]

[Edited 8/15/08 14:41pm] Def Jam at this point has issues, the Mariah album and its promotion were bad call after bad call, the money wasted, the bad singles, i mean her second single was a bullet in the head. The sad part is that Mariahs latest was light freaking years better than Mimi by far, but the singles were terrible, the videos were like watching videos she has done 15-20 times already, and not to mention the $$ they wasted on promo, i mean lighting the empire state building? yeah that helped, who cared. I just think Def Jam is a timebomb at this point, it may throw out hits, but its also throwing money away and its not making it back. The biggest overall disappointment with Mariahs album, was the fact that worldwide, it didnt do anything close to what they hoped. As for Janet, there needs to be a total overhaul, in terms of alienation, im talking about her doing tracks with Nelly and MIssy, and i know her die hards are saying, what the fuck, screw the guests, do what you DID best. For Mariah it's single selection that killed the project. She's barely doubled her opening week. First 3 singles should have been: 1. Touch My Body 2. Migrate 3. I Stay In Love For Janet, it's a case of poor planning. As badly mismanaged as the 20 Y.O. project was, if Feedback had been the lead single, I'm quite confident that it would have found more success. Call On Me was well-promoted, from the "The wait is over" advertisement to the buildup of anticipation for the promotional download on June 19th, 2006. A similar strategy worked to build hype for Mariah's "Touch My Body" and its radio debut. Call On Me really exploded at radio in the early days, but unfortunately the quality was just not there, at least for CHR/Pop. This is the kind of push Feedback needed, but didn't get. You don't just dump a single on the market in mid-December, just when radio is gearing up for Christmas and year-end countdowns. There was definitely a lot of friction with L.A. Janet went to dinner in NYC with him in early December, and she looked very upset when she left. Then the single leaked a few days later. The video was terrible, there were no performances until the album release week, and then there was the disagreement with L.A. over single #2. They should have sent Luv to all formats (it probably would have done well as a first single, too) but they fucked that up, too. There was no push overseas, either. [Edited 8/15/08 14:59pm]

[Edited 8/15/08 14:59pm] Well i agree on all that. With Mariah my issue was the bad video for "Touch My Body" and that led into possibly her worst second single....ever. I almost think "Migrate" should have been first, with Mariah doing a hot video which she has not done since "the Roof", and "side effects" could have been a single somewhere, which is a different sound for her, minus the rapper, and a song she has been performing lately, though i do think at this point the album is a dead issue. With Janet i just feel LA talked a good game and delivered nothing, the timing as we all know was POOR. I mean LA is an old school guy, he knows that radio FREEZES its playlists in December and most of January, and this is when he plans to focus on Janet and a new single? I really question LA, and im really started to see why he got the gate a few years back. i just think her time has passed, everyone peaks. Once the jimmy, terry, janet team lost steam well..... Well, Janet can still sell. Discipline opened at #1 and all her studio albums have opened in the Top 2. It's a matter of supporting the album beyond the first week with the proper singles, videos and performances that determines where it goes from there.

Well thats the thing that kills me, LA preached about things not being about week one, and yet he played it like week one was it all was about with both of these records. But i also feel the artist, whoever it may be, has to cooperate 100% nowadays, this is not the 80's where labels focused on 15-20 top notch artists at once, nowadays they focus on one at a time because its all bottom line, so if an artist doesnt wanna tour right away, or do press, or do videos, or whatever they are digging their own grave, because there is such a focus now when an album comes out, and when it doesnt set the world on fire, there is more focus than ever on these things. Janet's sales before JD - 20+ million Janest sales after JD - 2 million Need we say more? alphastreet said: I'm going to get a lot of heat for this, but he's too ghetto for her, meaning in a stereotypical way. You do have a bit of a point there - without Jam & Lewis production happening, would she have even had an album like Control, or Dream St. pt. 2?
