Lenny needs to get laid? Lenny Kravitz? Dude's "hit list" looks better than Prince's.

If THAT ain't the truth.

He's awesome! I love his work on Mama Said and 5. I know he's influenced way too much by artists before him, but he makes it his own and has an awesome voice.

Its been out for a while.

That is a good track for Lenny.

Eh. For ever one thing I like about this particular song/video there are three things I hate. Lenny had always been very hit or miss for me.

That being said, I think he is as celebrated as he should be -- a very middle of the road pop/rock artist.

Lenny has his "sound" that's for sure. Lenny pretty much still sounds the same on his latest album as he did on his debut in 89. He has a format that he doesn't stray away from. His biggest problem is that he doesn't ever come close to matching the cats that he always "borrow" from. Hendrix, Sly, Curtis, etc. He's not the only cat does this of course but because Lenny has the "rock star" persona, people "expect Lenny to be Harder than he is. Because Lenny isn't a lead guitarist, that hurts him more than anything, doing the genre of music that he does.

Fair and accurate. I want to think Lenny's gonna break through musically and artistically, but thematically, he's kinda cruised.

I like him, and like much of his music, but I don't consider him underappreciated.

At all.

My thoughts exactly.

If the underappreciated thing were argued after, say, AYGGMW, I may have bought it. His derivative style then did yet show some some signs of ownership. Ever since then, the stuff Lenny churns out has been technically proficient, I guess, but pretty generic. Could be any unnamed retro type.

You guys are crazy.

1. That track is filler. Why this is considered a great track is beyond me.

2. Lenny Kravitz not being a lead guitarist hasn't hurt him at all. You don't need to be a great guitarist to be an appreciated rock musician. You need great songs.

I so agree-Lenny is the shizz! I've always loved his music. Great lyrics and one helluva guitar player too! His voice is also awesome. I saw him in concert back in 1999 and he was just amazing and he went out into the audience and shook hands and everything. I am with you-he IS underrated and doesn't derserve it either. I have many favorites by him but I think 'Are You Gonna Go My Way'? is probably my favorite by him. He reminds me of Hendrix a bit. He's just amazing! headbang

How can you guys not call him a lead guitarist? He's got plenty of great leads on every single record. So many orgers think Jesse Johnson, for example, is so incredible. But Lenny's solos make much more sense for the songs. He's very good!

I'd love to see him get back to that real hippie vibe he had going in 89-91, but I suppose that ship sailed a long, long time ago. But I still love what he does. Off the top of my head I could easily list 50 songs that I absolutely love and have listened to hundreds of times each. I think they age just fine.

I've been a fan of Lenny's since his Romeo Blue days and have seen him in concert numerous times. He's a good musician with a decent voice. He's certainly not "Prince", but he's good and I enjoy his music a lot. His latest cd is excellent and he still looks as hot as ever!!

I'm not familiar with his current CD but will check it out.

I would love to see him perform too for sure, I nearly did when I got tickets to a local award show but didn't end up going.

I heard he's teaming up with Velvet Revolver, I can't wait to hear him and Slash again, they were like magic on Always on the Run, one of my favourite Lenny songs ever.

How can I not call him a lead guitarist? Cuz he ISN'T a lead guitarist. Craig Ross is Lenny's lead guitarist. I have every single album by Lenny..I know that he plays some "melody lines" here and there but every single time I've seen Lenny in concert, he never takes the "solos". I like Lenny, always said I have on here. It's no knock against Lenny...it's the truth. Many orgers on here think Jesse "is so incredible" as a lead guitarist...U know why that is? Because Jesse is just that. Playing a few melody lines on the guitar here and there on your album doesn't constitute as a "guitar solo". Just listen to Craig Ross and then you'll see what a lead guitarist is. Lenny reminds me a lot of Bowie on guitar. Sure, Bowie played the "solo" to "Space Oddity", (which was very cool, I might add) BUT as much as I adore Bowie, He is NOT a lead guitarist. Mick Ronson, THAT was a lead guitarist who played with Bowie.

I'm a little exasperated by this. If you need a minimum of 1,000 notes and a dive bomb to call your thing "a guitar solo", I guess I would understand that, because back in 1986 I felt just the same way. Call them "lead breaks" or whatever you will, the things Lenny does add to the songs and sound right. You won't hear big overhashed lead guitar on Beatles songs either but that doesn't mean you won't sing along with them when they come on the radio.

this are usually said to just get someone's reply REPOSTED
so I'll refrain from being TOO blunt. Yes my "musical knowledge"

good sense of what good music is. Furthermore, my comparing him
to Hendrix has more to do with his stage persona-not so much his
guitar playing-though I think Lenny IS a great guiatrist. NOR
DID I SAY he's right there with Jimi on guitar playing! Something
about him (a certain charisma) reminds me of Hendrix is more what I
was referring to. Not that I need to justify myself to you but there

Most decent artists have a sense of their strengths and weaknesses (whether they publicly admit it or not). In most situations where the lead singer is also a guitarist, they usually hire against what they are. A lead player will hire someone who is going to primarily do rhythm (Prince, Wendy for example). Someone who's strength is in rhythm will hire a lead player. It doesn't mean that the lead singer/guitarist CAN'T play lead at all but it does say where their strength lies.

Nah, u don't have to have a million notes and certainly not any dive bombs. U don't have to pass yourself off as a Hendrix/Van Halen clone to be considered a lead guitarist. Lenny is just not in the bag of a lead guitarist. Another example; Paul Stanley and Ace Frehley of KISS. Sure, Paul can play a lead melody line BUT Ace was the lead guitarist of that band. But I agree with u about Lenny's melody phrasing on the guitar..It does fit with his songs.

lol I appreciate where you're going with that, but to use Ace Frehley as an example! I can't give him a lot of respect as a musician, because he sucked (come on, didn't he?). But I will give him tons of credit for being part of an iconic rock and roll band, and for generally looking awesome.

I think that is stretching it a bit. Usher doesn't have a musical identity? Sure he is influenced by MJ but many of the singers out now are influenced by Usher. Donnell Jones, Lloyd, Ne-Yo, etc. They are not just influenced by MJ, they are Usher clones.
Lenny has a musical identity. I'd know in a second if a new artist had been listening to a bunch of Lenny Kravitz records. They'd be mediocre as hell! evillol
