Show some love for GLADYS KNIGHT! Sorry, but I just got back from seeing Gladys in concert and I had to share!!
First of all...WOW!...Gladys Knight is one hell of a performer Tonight's show was absolutely terrific My mom and I lucked up when my aunt gave us her tickets to the show for free because she had something come up. The Mighty Dells were the opening act, and they were very cool I love 'The Love We Had' BUT then Gladys came on and SHOWED OFF! She opened with a funky medley including: ' Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)', 'Don't Stay Away Too Long ', and more... I can never remember complete setlists, but some more songs she sang: Love Overboard My Life Story Keep on Keepin On If You Don't Know me by Know End of the Road Stormy Weather Midnight Train to Georgia and alot more... also, one of the Pips came out and joined her for a while (Bubba was his name?) and he was HILARIOUS! making jokes and generally acting a fool! Plus he did this superfunky version of Love and Happiness, with a bit a James Brown stewed in) It was a very good show, and since I was probably the youngest person there, I can honestly say I feel sorry for my generation! Come on guys! Love Gladys with me! what are your favorite songs by her? ....I was sad that she didn't do my favorite (If I was Your Woman) If you will, so will I

She's beautiful, unstoppable voice! Took my mom to see her live about 2 years ago, she was great

There are two women in the music industry that in my opinion, just blow the Patti's and the Mariah's out of the water. The first being Ms. Donna Summer and then Ms. Knight. These two women, just continue to get ignored in the industry, especially Gladys. Whenever I hear, "Neither One Of Us", or her version of, "The Way We Were", I lose my mine. I believe BET paid tribute to her on some award show and she came out and sang, "Neither", and tore the house down!! She is definitely, more credit. Gotta love Gladys! She can sing me anything. I'd love to see her in concert.
My favorite would have to be "If I Were Your Woman." As an aside, I also have to give it up to Gladys because she is always looking good. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I like NIN, and a Foo Fighters, but not enough to buy one of those expensive tickets and get lost in that crowd If you will, so will I

To me, Patti tends to over sing songs, when she does not have too. Ms. Summer, does not try to over sing...she just sings. This is just my opinion. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

That's my favorite Gladys song too. I can keep it on repeat and NEVER get tired of it. Gladys Knight is nothing short of amazing and she deserves WAY more props than she does. When I saw her perform on the BET Awards in 2005, I was STUNNED at how incredible she was. What was amazing and in a way pathetic was that she showed everyone how a true performer does it on that stage. There was no one on that show that was even one-forth as good let alone great as Gladys. There is no one like her at all. NO ONE I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Yeah gladys will hurt ya. Her and chaka khan are my favorite female vocalists from the 70's. Thanks for sharing the story with us. Don't know much about the dells except a few songs and i was shocked to find out they recorded that the love we had before dru hill and the dells version sounds excellent. Oh yeah gladys should have been arrested for not performing if i were your woman. [Edited 8/5/08 19:20pm] Don't laugh at my funk
