Anyone Remember Charlie Singleton from Cameo Charlie was the lead guitar player in Cameo.
He sang lead on some of their hits. Had a few solo albums out in the 80s with a few hits. Really talented guy. He has some new stuff out. I've been rocking it for about a month now. The more I listen the more I like. Charlie had a few problems with the mainstream lables which got him kinda sorta screw out of putting stuff out. Now he is putting it out himself. Checkout his website. http://hiphopera.biz/ You can pick up his double CD. Trust me he brings it all Funk, Soul, Hiphop, and a he throws in a little guitar. BTW if you buy the CD he will send you a personal note of thanks. Irv

Thanks for posting this, Irv. I'm a big fan of Charlie's from BITD. I'll check his site & pass the word. A true funk innovator. Funk Is It's Own Reward

I remember he had a pretty good jam in the late 1980s, probably around 1987 or 1988. I can't remember the name of it though. Andy is a four letter word.

Charlie is a great story teller. OK, what kind of drums are on the album? Are they real or are they drum machines? And if they are drum machines, are they the type of drum machines that everyone else is using these days (the ones that barely tap)? And most importantly, are there any uptempo jams on the album? And I'm not talking about uptempo by today's standards. I'm talking about uptempo by 70s and 80s standards....real uptempo. If it contains some uptempo ass shakers with hard strong drums and bass, I'll be glad to buy it. If not.....next. . . . [Edited 8/7/08 15:44pm] Andy is a four letter word.

Charlie is a lot like Prince. He plays all intruments and 95% of the vocals are him. If you are not intrested the move on. It just kills me how many people on Prince.org just have to be negative about every thing. Get a friggen life. Smell the roses. Enjoy the sunshine. Irv

Charlie's one of my favorite underground guitar players. Never cared for his 80's solo LP's.

Every genre has an artist that is capable of doing everything. That doesn't mean I will like their music if I buy it. If you are not intrested the move on.
Hey, no need to get upset. I possibly could be interested. You're the one that sparked my interest by mentioning that there is funk on the album. If you hadn't mentioned funk, I would have just assumed that it was another sellout album to the shit hop sound made by an older artist. The mention of the word funk sparks my interest and makes me want to find out if there is actually funk on the album or if it is just another lie in order to get older fans to buy the album. There are samples on the website but I can't hear them because I only have internet at work and all media players are blocked. If I can't afford internet at home, I sure don't have money to buy an album that I was misled into thinking it contained funk only to get it home and find nothing but ballads, midtempo songs, and shit hop. I've been burned before by other older artists' newer albums and I ain't about to take that chance again. Especially with gas as high as it is. That's why I'm asking questions to find out if it's real funk or sellout shit hop trying to be passed off as funk. If it's a sellout album, just say it's a sellout album. Buying albums these days is like buying a used car. I don't want to receive a lemon. I tell ya, they need to let me interview celebrities because I know exactly which questions to ask. Hell, I'd probably be able to get Michael Jackson to slip up and tell the truth about his sleepovers. It just kills me how many people on Prince.org just have to be negative about every thing. Get a friggen life. Smell the roses. Enjoy the sunshine.
That's because there is a lot out there to be negative about. As for smelling the roses and enjoying the sunshine, I've never liked the simple things in life. . . . [Edited 8/8/08 10:56am] Andy is a four letter word.
