Now, how much more significant can it get by playing in a 70s icon sitcom and being the first Black angel ? L-Boogie wigged-out. Lucy Liu was picked instead. Yeah,I knew about this.Drew Barrymore personally asked Lauryn to co-star in the 'Charlie's Angels' movie. In 1999,everybody wanted to work with Lauryn Hill. She was RED-HOT.Even Sheryl Crow said that she wants Lauryn to produce her next album. As for the movie...Lauryn was crazy for turning that role down! It would have been a historic, groundbreaking role for her. In pop music, you don't get a second chance. You have to strike while you can.Lauryn messed up big time. These opportunities won't come her way again. Neither.
Cowardly record labels are the ones who truly disappointed me because they refused to take a chance on them when they(L & D) took another direction instead of catering to the old marketing method of their previous albums.

Which one of these great artists were you most disappointed in when they broke down and flamed out? Both were on the road to musical greatness, but instead they now live in the dreaded, "where are they now" land of disappointments. But its not like we are talking about Devo or Milli Vanilli. We are talking about musical genius.
For me I think it was D'Angelo that disappointed me the most. I kept anticipating a new album then all of a sudden...BAM! He's got a mugshot and a drug habit! Talk about crazy. Which one effected you the most? Lauren. Lauren had more potential than D'Angelo because she had already "crossed over" where the world knew who Lauren Hill was/is. But, she slipped back from her dream and gave into pressure. I think she should have kept on moving. But, I also feel the same way about Maxwell and Erykah Badu. They (Maxwell and Badu) was on the verge of doing something big but, they also pulled a "Lauren Hill" and just didn't "press in" to get to the next level. Look at our boy, Prince. Prince has been in favor and out of favor with people (fans, public opinion and music insiders), however, he doesn't care, by hook or by crook, he is going to get his music out there. Ole boy just keeps going no matter what and that is why I'm so into him. It has been over thirty years since "For You" and the name Prince is not a "by word". Prince has and continues to fulfill his dream by creating music his way and is a living legend. No doubt... [Edited 8/8/08 12:43pm] "A united state of mind will never be divided

If she had stayed in the industry and "played nice" she probably would have received more interesting movie offers. Alicia Keys wasn't savvy about her first movie role, she played a lesbian hit-woman in a movie...it didn't make her career any more or less better.

I never said it was weird for her to turn down those rules. I saw it as dumb actually - but not weird. I call her ass weird because she don' lost her damn mind over some dick. And who cares if Alicia's movie role helped/not helped her career? That wasn't the point. The way I see it, she was getting her feet wet so she can play other roles. It was a career move. Lauren Hill disappointed me more. I can't even listen to any of her music without thinking about how she let her mind go. What a waste. D'Angelo i kinda knew he was going to take a long break when he never put out anything else after his last album. They both are truly talented. I do think D'Angelo will eventually release another cd. Lauren is soo far out of it that if she does actually decides to make another album....who knows if she will ever release it.

i think lauryn made a mistake by taking all the credit for creating her album, she was placed on this huge pedastal and people were calling her some kinda genius, i even heard her compared to stevie wonder. when she was exposed for not giving proper credit to the people that helped her (most likely did most of the work) with that classic album i think she knew it was no way she could come close to miseducation. she let herself go and became a sperm depository for a married man, lauryn is very talented but i think there was a lil bit of fraud when it came to just how talented.i was never a big dangelo fan, i liked a couple of his songs from his 1st album,i never thought he was that big of a deal in the first place.he had a strong prince vibe thats why i think he's hyped up so much on this board.

Lauryn Hill was the bigger dis-appointment IMO.
From the Fugees on she displayed a remarkable voice.

A person in their right mind is NOT gonna turn down major movie roles like 'Charlie's Angels' and 'Bourne Identity'.Both of those films were major hits and I really think that Lauryn could have been a dazzling, dynamic actress.Sadly, she won't get these opportunities again.

This is an interesting question!
For me, it's probably Lauryn. She had the world by the balls and gave it up for a man and some religious guru who was controlling her thoughts and life. She's since been a baby making machine for Rohan who already has children from other women (so I've read) and has never married her either. If she didn't have money, she and her kids would be in trouble. It's very unfortunate that she's allowed this to happen to her. D'Angelo on the other hand.....is very talented and I loved Voodoo, but he doesn't have the same talent has Lauryn IMO.
