Z Cult Favorite/Bob Dylan/Sweetheart Like You"

This is one of my all time favorite songs. I remember in 83 when this was first released, I first heard the song when I saw this video. I love the music, great chord progression. Musically, it reminds me of something Bobby Womack would have written. I love Dylan's lyrics in general and this is no exception. Great lyrics. I love the video. I remember always digging it when it came on MTV. I like how Dylan is singing the lyrics to an older lady who's cleaning up the joint after closing time. She's standing there looking at Dylan while Dylan sung these lyrics to her. I thought that was very cool to do that instead of having the typical 20 year old fox being the object of desire. I remember having a little crush on the female guitarist in Dylan's band in the video. A lady named Carla Olson. I remember digging the hell out of the pretty, soulful guitar solo in this song. I still love this solo. At the time, I was smitten with Carla cuz I thought she cute and that she looked hella cool playing the guitar solo. And I was impressed that it was her playing it. Little did I know that it was actually Mick Taylor who recorded the solo. (That was a drag) Carla was just miming in the video. But she did a hella good job. She had the vibrato in the right places and so forth so I could tell that she could really play. I didn't find that out untill I went and bought the album "Infidels" and saw Mick Taylor was credited. But I love this song. Who else digs Dylan "Sweetheart Like You" from 83?

The Mick Taylor/Carla Olson relationship in that video is interesting...

...because he's done almost all her solo albums.

Prior to her solo career she was in a band that played a lot around L.A. during the early 80s called The Textones.

Yeah, years later I found out that Mick had worked with Carla on a few things. But I had no idea that he produced all of those albums for her. I had wondered if they were a couple. And if that's how Dylan got hip to her in the first place..through Mick Taylor. I know she went on the road with Dylan, playing in his band for awhile. But I wonder if Mick was the one who suggested to Bob that she be in the video, playing Mick's lead. Anyway, cool to see that connection went way beyond the Dylan video. I knew if no one else posted on this thread, YOU would. I KNEW you would be hip to this track and the Carla/Mick connection. When I was typing, I was like "Watch Aud be up on this!" I swear, I even started to mention u at the end of the thread but then I thought "nah..too corny."

I remember her from The Textones days doing the "L.A. Tour" and that she always stood out from other bands in the area that had a female front person.

And i've always been a fan of Mick Taylor's guitar playing from John Mayall, The Stones and his first solo album...

...simply titled Mick Taylor.

Songs are kinda limp and his vocals tres weak but his guitar playing is quite good as usual.

I guess after going through hell (literally) with the Glimmer Twins he was probably ready for something/someone a little more traditional like Carla Olson. Plus, she's much better looking than Mick & Keef.

Shit, Carla is hot. Waaay better looking than Mick and Keef, no doubt. Haha...Yeah, he didn't fit with the Stones. Not his fault, he just didn't fit. Ron was perfect. Like he had been there all along. But yeah, Taylor is a very cool guitarists.

I always liked these lines:

Snap out of it, baby!
People are jealous of you
They smile to your face
But behind your back they hiss
"What's a sweetheart like you doin' in a dump like this?"

Reminds me of how he confronted a "hisser" directly in Positively 4th Street.

I know the reason that you talk behind my back
I used to be among the crowd you're in with

Do you take me for such a fool to think I'd make contact
With the one who tries to hide what he don't know to begin with

You see me on the street, you always act surprised
You say, "How are you?" "Good luck," but you don't mean it

When you know as well as me you'd rather see me paralyzed
Why don't you just come out once and scream it
