Yeah, I noticed how 50's it sounded (latter half of the 50's of course).


I love some of that 50's stuff. I did a thread a while back about a song from the 50's. That didn't get any replies LOL

Bloody huge sample! I use to buy this sorta stuff from time to time in my teens (so solid crew and other garage/grime Uk groups etc...). God knows where those cd's and comps have gone now?

You know, I've been meaning to get more into late 70s/early 80s ska and mod. I was flirting more with mod last year (and managed to get hooked on The Ordinary Boys before they broke up, The Beat and FYC's First album). But I jump around so much.

Mannn, I think I have a secret love affair with the UK music scene because my tastes fall so much in line with the stuff going on out there I find. I don't know why it's like that. But I have an affinity more towards UK music than my native US. Maybe it's because it's so sonically interesting and not afraid to be adventurous.

I'm actually quite mad that I'm not spending my 20s listening to tunes and going to gigs in the UK. Can we trade locations? You come to NYC, I go to London. Unfair, I know! lol

Yeah, I noticed a sca influence with the ordinary boys. I like bits of sca, but never bothered looking into it though. You have such wide tastes in music, its not surprising you dont fully digest some of it.

My tastes are always rooted in pop, whilst you like alot of the underground stuff ontop of the pop stuff.

You'd be surprised how much The Ordinary Boys last album How To Get Everything You Want In Ten Easy Steps was rooted in ska and mod-like revival like The Jam. The last single from that album had a doo-wop vibe to it. Called "I Luv U." Pointless video, but really nice, harmonic tune.

This is far from doo wop, more in the same league of Born In The USA E-Street Band era Springsteen. But I got love for ya tunes nonetheless.


BTW, glad you were feeling that Ordinary Boys song. I wanted to post a better performance clip of it (since they're lipsyncing like hell in that one, but I wanted you to catch the more pronounced vocal harmonies).

Wanna throwback to classic 50s era Little Richard. Some of you folks may remember this tune a la Fergie's "Clumsy" [she did a good job sampling it]



Also, here's another really good Darts clip (just getting into them more and more, gotta track down an album by them) entitled "Daddy Cool/Girl Can't Help It" from 1977.
