I always thought Living Colour's Time's Up was more accomplished than their debut. Anywho...
Plantation Lullabies/Meshell Ndegéocello (I know some will argue this isn't her best album necessarily.) This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

. To me TTD's "Introducing..." is the best debut album of an artist ever (especially considering the fact that he wrote all the songs himself except for one), but though being by far his most commercially succesful album I like "Symphony or damn", "Wildcard" and especially "Vibrator" more and like "Neither fish nor flesh" as much as "Introducing...". With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Whitney Houston's 1985 debut album kicks ass!

Best debut i've heard is Kate Bush's The Kick Inside altho' she topped it with The Dreaming and Hounds of Love.
TTD's Hardline album is great but i prefer all his other albums, it's too slick, too 80's and overproduced and musically his imagination ran wild after. I guess i just find it too ordinary! Tori Amos's Little Earthquakes remains her best so far. Other great debuts: The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin Bee Gees - 1st Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction Bjork - Debut Michael Jackson - Off The Wall I'm not sure if the last two qualify as they'd both done work b4 but i reckon both were making their first proper artistic statement which will do nicely...for me anyway. (Applies to the BeeGees and Tori Amos and TTD as well.) [This message was edited Wed Nov 13 5:10:27 PST 2002 by Cloudbuster] [This message was edited Wed Nov 13 5:11:17 PST 2002 by Cloudbuster]

Yeah, but still it's their best to me. Even if they don't come out with another one. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

The albums I listed are examples of what I believe are the best debuts. I do not believe that those are their best albums.

The Specials
The English Beat ABC Gang of Four The Selecter The Pretenders The Waitresses The B-52's Big Audio Dynamite The Clash (although many say "London Calling" was their best) Sex Pistols Guns-n-Roses ...But you know what, I tend to think that if artists have successful debut LP's then it's hard for them to repeat themselves. That theory's been tried & true with many artists, including some of these. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.
