I Kissed a Girl sucks. Katy's voice is awful and the lyrics are just so bleh.

Yep. I agree.

I wonder what would happen if a straight dude had some balls and sang a song like "I kissed a boy and I liked it." That would be some crazy shit but this song makes me wonder how people would react. Would it go to #1 and stay there? Hell would it even hit the charts? Makes me wonder confuse

You live in the States, right? You really wonder? Really? You don't think you could surmise from past experiences of men alluding to homosexuality in music in the past how that would go? Really? Come on. You know how it would go. Say it. Say you know. You know you know.
America has pretty much stated through the media how it feels about boys kissing.
Even girls are limited to having to have to be hot and bisexual.
The dude would be dubbed gay, especially if he were black or hispanic.

Maybe I'm going too deep with it but a song like that should have an ounce of something clever or even something deep in there, no matter how superficial the song may start out but it's nowhere to be found on it and it's a pity. Oh well.

I don't know if it was touched on a different Katy Perry thread before but I figured that it could be brought up here. That's a good question. Somehow I think the Right might be more up in arms about "I kiss a Boy". But would it go to #1? It depends. There's two ways it could go. The song could crash and burn horribly, and the guy's career would never lift off, or it could have sort of a musical Brokeback effect and get to be more popular than anyone could've guessed.

I can definitely see one of these emo bands pulling it off. Or the band that sounds like Springsteen whose lead singer has a silly handlebar mustache. I'll kiss him if he shaves. razz

I don't get why the song is being taken so seriously. It's just a bubble gum pop song, like 99% of the rest of the music out today. Why so serious?

Emo barf Pete Wentz and all his little friends can fuck off and die.

I don't think anybody'd care much if a singer or group from a genre like emo would do a song like I Kissed a Boy, because part of the whole emo esthete is being bi because it's trendy.

Naw, I think somebody from a really "macho" genre like metal or gangsta rap should do it. THAT would turn a few heads.

I hate to say this, but looking at your age in your profile, this could be a generational thing. And I don't mean this in any condescending way. I'm a 35 year old gay man. Seeing younger gay kids be comfortable about coming out, the older I get, I can't help but think this has to do with shit like Will & Grace, and Katy Perry and emo. I hated that crap in my 20s, thought it was assimilationist bullshit, but the older I get, I'm starting to feel like even if I don't love it, I appreciate it on some level.

Um, nope. Tatu, with their skimpy outfits and phonetic delivery, pretended to be in LUV. It was BS, and any self-respecting 'mo could smell it a mile away. I much more appreciate someone simple expressing, "I kissed a girl and i liked it"
