Then I saw new order and roxy music and thought, but, but the man said roaring 20s? Howsthat? Then again, I'm still confused about Herman's compilation title! (Btw, Herman, there's an Amsterdam DJ going by the name of Blue Flamingo, he just compiled an excellent disc named 78rpm, comprised of, you guessed it, old 78rpm records from the 20s and 30s: exotic jazz, rumba's and Caribbean jazz. Magnificent! You'll like it much!)

First off, wow, this is quite a personal mix you made! I'll try just to discuss the music, if possible. I was looking forward to your mix, since you are handled with a lot of respect around here. I also remember you and some orgers were submerged in that lastfm, no, ratemymusic site! I remember you had quite the collection, so I was excited to have you onboard! I never knew I had a reputation around here! Honestly, I think I know far less about music than most people who are contributing to this awesome adventure. That said, I do believe I am able to put my feelings about a song or album that paint a picture about how it makes me feel, and that is what's so exciting about this whole venture. Hearing these songs through someone else's ears is proving to be a great exercise! You didn't know about your reputation? You come here much? Some years ago, you and two brothers were always discussing recent artist and talking about rateyourmusic. That was you, right? Anyway, I work in a record store and was playing a double disc greatest hits of New Order in the store yesterday, because of your compilation. It was sold before it was even half-way through! Moonbeam said: Oh my! If you are afraid of the typical "80s sound", I could understand your trepidation about getting into Eurythmics. However, as with any genre or era, there are certain artists who transcend the times and Eurythmics are definitely one of them. They never used synthesizers as a way to hide a lack of musicianship, but rather to enhance their material and give it different textures. Even their most synth-based stuff often incorporates horns, strings, and guitars. Oh, it's not that I think electronic music lacks quality or musicianship. To me, it's mostly the sound. I prefer the warmth of analog over sterile digital. It is changing slightly however... Yesterday I watched the entire musicvideo to Paul Kings' Love and Pride. Sound off, off course! The other day I even touched a Duran Duran cd! 10. Gorillaz- “Demon Days” (from 2005’s Demon Days) Great ending, musically as well as within the context of your story. My fave of the comp! I loved the first gorillaz, and my respect for Albarn grew with that album (along with some other projects he had going at the time). Somehow I viewed it as a one-off experiment and never gave the following albums any attention. Perhaps I was wrong to do so! As I told Supa, Demon Days is well-worth checking out. It works on so many different levels, and really puts the debut album to shame! Maybe I'll play that one tomorrow in the store! I hope I don't sell it straight away!

I also was (and to a degree still am) an eternal idealist and optimist. I was very fortunate to grow up in a financially secure household brimming with love. I never had to face many of the hardships that so many people do. This led me to become a bit sheltered in my viewpoints and beliefs, and my idealism ran wild. I really only wanted everyone to be in perfect harmony and openly express their admiration and love for one another, as I did. This song captures a bit of my youthful naivety, with “the love you found must never stop” acting as a bit of a motto for me. Musically, I absolutely adore the way the song opens with ominous cellos before blending them with a perfectly danceable synth line. This marriage of two of my favorite instrumental palettes makes it an enduring classic for me. Beautiful write-up. I feel where you're coming from. I remember you gave me this track a couple of years ago -- the 12" version. Had it on my old black iPod for a while. Many of the songs on your list have intimate associations for me since they've been the soundtrack to my youth. "Heartbeat" is still a magical tune. When I hear it now, it's sort of overwhelming given how much my life has changed. It can make you cry. I remember the first time I let that track sink in, it was Fall 2005, I was in New York, Madonna's Confessions was the buzz album, the leaves were orange, and I was walking the streets in a zip-up sweater looking at this track glow on my display. Ahh, I really loved the music of this time. Thanks for these tunes. I definitely thought of you with "Never Stop"! Great to hear about your attachment to "Heartbeat"! Are you going to give us a mix as well? I'd love to hear what you come up with. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Eurythmics are one of the few artists that have gotten the maximum value out of their use of synthesizers, I'd say, so if you were to venture into 80s territory, you may like them more than others. Maybe I'll play that one tomorrow in the store! I hope I don't sell it straight away!
You may want to check out the videos I posted in this thread. The album is cohesive, yet it has a lot of variety. You also may want to check out Kids with Guns and Every Planet We Reach Is Dead, which are two of the highlights for me. If you like the track I posted on my comp, you may dig the enchanting B-side Hong Kong. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018!
