I think you'll find the vast majority of us are big P fans. I personally don't post much in the P:M&M forum, but P is my all time favorite artist. There are many of us who don't post much there, but are still big fans. Exactly!

Thanks for summing it up for us I mean, in all honesty...I love Luther for example (everybody loves him)...we could discuss his brilliance (as we have before) or we could over-analyze Amy "Trainwreck" Winehouse's latest mishap the fact that I'd rather hear some dirt on Amy bears no reflection on my actual musical taste or preferance . [Edited 7/17/08 23:13pm] I agree 100%. Luther One thing besides an artist's music that is discussed in depth on almost any music website is something scandalous that a certain artist may have done. Many artists, whether old school or a part of today's wackness, have something scandalous to throw out there as a way to get press. The more scandalous, the more press, the more hype. Madonna has made this into an artform...with the whole A-Rod thing going down right before she launches her tour, what a cowinkydink. (Disclaimer: I am in no way, shape, or form blaming Madonna for the dissolution of A-Rod's marriage and his stepping out on his kids...it would probably have happened eventually because this dude hooked up with a stripper before this all happened, so Madonna is mostly guilty in showing the world that she's friends with a total asshole.) Oh, and Amy Crackhouse... I never listened to her last album, but it was widely praised by many 'sophisticated' music listeners, which could mean it's phenomenal...but at the end of the day, the woman is a drug addict with a record contract, a problem that obviously didn't hurt her album sales and has given amusement to Youtube watchers in tons of different countries throughout the world. People pay attention to scandal and gossip nowadays, no matter how 'sophisticated' they insist they are...like someone said, it's human nature. The only thing that disturbs me are fanatics...fans soo obsessed with a certain artist that they can't say a single negative thing about their favorite artist and will defend them to the death no matter how wrong they may be. Those people freak me out, which is why I avoid any website that's 'official'...those are usually where the worshippers go to make sacrifices to their musical god. Even the Madonna/Janet/Mariah/MJ/etc. threads that frequently pop up on this forum don't come close to some of the wack-a-doos that dwell on some official artists websites and thank God for that. [Edited 7/19/08 11:10am] It's not human nature to concern yourself with celebrity gossip. If thats the case we would all be doing it because it would be a natural part of us to do so. Many of us only care to discuss the content of an artist work and could care less about who they are sleeping with or how bad their drug intake is. The fact is the majority of music listeners are drawn to it based on non musical factors. I have heard tons of people off message boards discuss how hot a male or female artist looks, who they are sleeping with etc and not once did the quality of their music come up And we wonder why much music today lacks substance, their isn't a demand for substance, it is however a great demand for gossip scandal and bullshit, stations like 'E' would not have half of their programming if the majority was more into the art form over gossip fashion whatever.. anyway who is going to start a topic on Miles Davis A Tribute The Jack Johnson Tribute sessions I am far from a music snob I am pretty open minded and not really the musical elitist type but I am one who would much rather talk about the actual albums in most cases

Incense and Candles is shit hop? That's a slamming ass ballad. I don't see where this song relates to shit hop. The weak sounding type drum machines he used on the song that sounds like the type the other artists of today use. Also, the way he kinda half sings/half raps the lyrics. The only
time i will say prince sold out to shit hop somewhat is on a portion of the diamond and pearls album when he had that corny ass rapper tony i believe is his name rap on a few of the songs. Rapping isn't what makes hip hop become shit hop. Shit hop is a sound. It's the type drum machines they use to make the sound which was used mainly by rappers in the 1990s but eventually took over for the background music for singers also. It's the sound of today and whenever I hear a Prince song that sounds like it would fit in with anything on the radio today and not sound out of place, I see that particular song as selling out to shit hop. Andy is a four letter word.

Miles Davis threads go something like this: "Bitches Brew: Great Album!!" haha yeah thats true but those appreciation threads have taught me a shit load about music-i got hipped to gil scott and mingus throught hism site
