Madame X - Just That Type Of Girl (Extended Remix)

Not too sure I dig the added drums during the chorus, but Valerie's spoken word intro is seductively funky. cool

Is it that I have a built in bias because I grew up with this music, or was that extened mix just awesome? Man, I miss the 80's.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

One of the best jams of the late 1980s. And believe me, real jams had started becoming scarce back then.

OOOOO, do you guys remember this performance. I still have it on VHS. Man, these women were BEAUTIFUL! During the interview portion when Valerie introduces herself, check out how she looks Don up and down. Too sexy. I remember being so turned on by these women.

In many ways,Madame X was like a late-80s version of Vanity 6.They took Prince's concept to a whole new level. The album also has a Minneapolis vibe to it.

You know, I've never really thought of it that way. Though I've never heard the entire album, "Just That Type of Girl" does have a Minneapolis Thing going for it.

I may have to bite the bullet and purchase a copy online. I say bite the bullet because they are NOT cheap.

I remember buying a Whoopi Goldberg soundtrack album (and I'd never do that) just for this song! I thought it couldv'e been a Prince production back then.

Yeah,"Just That Type Of Girl" has a "Nasty Girl" vibe to it.....stripped down funk with sassy lyrics. The second single "I Want Your Body" also sounds like a Prince production, circa 1982.

This is the first time I've heard this song. I like it, but it's hardly original. Clearly, they took some of Prince's ideas from the Vanity 6 project. "Just That Type of Girl" almost sounds like a remix of "Nasty Girl", in terms of BOTH the lyrics and the beat.

Anyway, does anyone know what happened to this group?

Er, I doubt you'll get any arguments about the song's originality here. In fact, your sentiments about the Prince/Vanity 6 connection have been echoed throughout this thread.

As for their whereabouts, they've opened up a myspace (http://www.myspace.com/madamexmusic) to announce their plans to reunite and tour. It was my understanding that member Alisa Randolph passed away sometime before or around 2005, but I see no mention of it on the linked myspace account and she's still listed as being apart of the trio. confused

I immediately thought of Vanity 6 the first time I heard Madame X.

That's my favorite song on the album! Bernadette Cooper is ALL OVER this song and her spoken bits are naughty and outrageous!

"Uncontrollable desire.....passion....chills running up and down my spine...ooh! I'm losin' my mind....wild....very very very erotic,baby...temporary.....LAWD!" lol

Yeah, there is definitely a Minneapolis vibe on this album."Just That Type Of Girl" is like an updated "Nasty Girl".Another song has a weird title that sounds like something Prince would have came up with: "Cherries In The Snow".

Anyway, does anyone know what happened to this group?

In late 1988,there were tentative plans for a second album.Teena Marie (a good friend of producer Bernadette Cooper) even mentioned that she would be writing and producing a few tracks.Alas, the album never materialized and one of the girls went solo.Madame X was a cool concept,it's too bad they never got the chance to take it further.
