Is M.I.A. worth getting into? What about...

a couple others?

Thievery Corporation
Gnarls Barkley's new one
Vampire Weekend?

I need some NEWER more hip artists on my playlist. Gnarls first cd was good, but I never feel the need to spin it anymore...new one any good?
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

i love both of M.I.A.'s albums - great energy, great beats, just very cool and original to my ears.

Vampire Weekend are fine, but I think they're a little precious and overhyped. If you can find their album used for cheap, give it a try.

I recommend Thievery Corporation. If you think you'd like a potpourri of electronica, Brazilian and Jamaican rhythms, acid jazz grooves, foreign lyrics and remixes (Abductions and Reconstructions or Versions) then go for it!
Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

During her last concert she kept saying thank you and that it was her last show. I also heard that her tour exhausted her out, so maybe that's the reason. I don't think she was cut out to be a super star and the life that goes with it.

she's also really new at the touring grind and she's had an intense career thus far. hopefully she was just frustrated. i don't mind if she cuts down her touring, i just really hope she keeps making music.

i don't think she was a great choice of opening act for prince.

ironically, she did a show at first avenue in MPLS last fall and everyone raved about what an amazing show she gave.

shrug

I ahve only heard good things about her show. She was the opening act for Gwens Sweet Escape Tour. I think that would be her audience more so than Prince.

you shouldn't buy her albums. or if you already have, you should sell them back and at least get a few dollars for them.

MIA's albums are fantastic!! I love how she mixes up so many sounds into one cohesive whole cool
I like both pretty equally and I also dig the Diplo remixes
Haven't seen her live but I heard she rocked Virgin Fest like a year ago
If you will, so will I

And to answer your question, I like M.I.A.'s Kala a lot more than her first album. It's what I imagined her first album would be like which I thought wasn't bad, but a little overrated. It sounds great in my car with the bass really high.

I also like the new Gnarls Barkley a lot more than their first record. There is no killer song like "Crazy", but it's much more even throughout.

To be honest, she's overrated in my book. I think she's pretty. I think a few of her songs are well thought out and conscious. I think that's about it. I can't stomach her tracks. Her music is avant-garde, but its hard to listen to.
