Just Heard Annie Lennox's "Walking On Broken Glass" and WOW! Awesome! Up late last night - as usual. A song came on that I had never heard before. It was a little song called "Walking On Broken Glass." Wow. Musically the song blew my mind. And the vocals and lyrics were like icing on top of a perfect cake. I was never someone who was much into Annie Lennox or her music, I respected her as an artist, but just never discovered her solo stuff.
Something tells me the next album I buy just might be Diva. Does the album live up to the song, "Walking On Broken Glass?" Because, I heart that song! Would love to people who have the album, or LOVE this song, to either show props to this AWESOME song or tell me what are some other Lennox gems I have missed along the way. Back to my music... "You were the sweetest thing that I ever knew But I dont care for sugar honey if I cant have you Since youve abandoned me My whole life has crushed Wont you pick the pieces up cause it feels just like Im walking on broken glass Walking on walking on broken glass....." Of all the singles from that album, this was my least favorite. The dance mixes were okay.
I second what BP just said - listen to Why. One of the best relationship ending songs.

You just heart it?
Okay, buy Diva immediately.

Little Bird and Money Can't Buy It are my favorites on Diva. You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

"No more I love you's"--"Why"-- are also two of my favorites...They def. appeal to my other side of why I wonder us men can be so cruel sometimes in love...I can imagine Prince writing a song like these just as he did with "Open Book" 4 Martika...

WHY
Something you should know about Why Lyrics Title: Annie Lennox - Why lyrics Artist: Annie Lennox Lyrics Visitors: 3500 visitors have hited Why Lyrics since May 27, 2008. Print: Annie Lennox - Why Lyrics print version Complimentary "Why" Ringtone How many times do I have to try to tell you That I'm sorry for the things I've done But when I start to try to tell you That's when you have to tell me Hey, this kind of trouble's only just begun I tell myself too many times Why don't you ever learn to keep your big mouth shut That's why it hurts so bad to hear the words That keep on falling from your mouth Falling from your mouth Falling from your mouth Tell me... Why Why I may be mad I may be blind I may be viciously unkind But I can still read what you're thinking And I've heard it said too many times That you'd be better off Besides... Why can't you see this boat is sinking Let's go down to the water's edge And we can cast away those doubts Some things are better left unsaid But they still turn me inside out Turning inside out turning inside out Tell me... Why Tell me... Why This is the book I never read These are the words I never said This is the path I'll never tread These are the dreams I'll dream instead This is the joy that's seldom spread These are the tears... The tears we shed This is the fear This is the dread These are the contents of my head And these are the years that we have spent And this is what they represent And this is how I feel Do you know how I feel? 'Cause I don't think you know how I feel I don't think you know what I feel I don't think you know what I feel You don't know what I feel I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I was 8 in 1992 and just then starting to be introduced to...MJ.
I hadn't even heard of Prince, so Annie Lennox certainly wasn't on my radar. MJ Fan 1992-Forever

Diva is a graceful, elegant classic of an album. Every song is well performed and essential. The album was released as a DVD as well, so here are most of the song:
The heart-breaking "Why" Groove-worthy "Precious" Dramatic "Cold" Funk-filled "Little Bird" Gradually building "Money Can't Buy It" Striking "Legend in My Living Room" Other-worldly "The Gift" Sacred "Primitive" Also, check out the chilling B-side "Love Song for a Vampire", which would almost be my favorite on the album if included! You heard it for the first time....I think I heard it for the 1000th today while flipping through the radio and sitting in my car during my break. God, what a great produced song and what an awesome vocal performance. I still don't own "Diva", though. That goes on list of albums to look for on my next vinyl/plastic dig (not sure what material CDs are made out of but I'll probably get the CD of that).

Diva is one of those records...that is just a pure and simple classic. I put it up there with all the great female singer/songwriter albums of the past few decades, it belongs with Mama's Gun, Relish, Miseducation, When the Pawn, Jagged Little Pill, Sheryl Crow's self titled one, etc.
My fave, I think, is "Money Can't Buy It." Or "Cold." She didn't do a ton of Diva stuff last time I saw her; luckily in 2003 I had the chance to see her at a very small venue at UCLA where she did almost all the classic songs from Diva plus all her Eurythmics hits, solo. And who can forget "Precious?" An underrated gem - should have been a single. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

to me, "diva" is annie's one and only bullseye album as a solo artist. i think she has an impressive, high quality catalog of solo work but "diva" just knocks it out of the park. it's true, every song on there is a classic.

And Moonbeam, of course. honorary gay person. I've got gay ears. Awwww. That is sweet. But I love Annie. Even though she became somewhat of a mental patient, it seems; I saw an appareance of her at a gala and she was talking alot of mushy stuff.

So what's the story here? Why didn't Martika record it? She seems to have recorded it, but her version never hit the underground. Prince's version did, though, which is the version I prefer over Jevetta Steele's version.

As a sports fan, imagine how I feel watching guys play who weren't even born when I was watching their fathers play . . . . And yes, talking to someone born in the 80's or shockingly the '90's (!) and remembering what I was doing . . I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
