Poll results like that ^ make me wonder if Prince fans are out of touch with music today. Most of us would probably resent that statement and say it's the majority of the music buying public that are out of touch with what good music is. But are we as Prince fans (who are also mostly classic 60s/70s/80s R&B/Soul/Funk fans) just too hung up on the great music of old that we are not even willing to consider the concept of good music coming out today? Has criticising new music just become the way to gain respect on a music forum such as this one? It seems that way. It seems criticising music that is coming out right now gives you some sort of cred around here and other forums that celebrate the music of old. The music of old is great, and still dominates my music collection. But I'm willing to embrace any good song I here coming out today. And this is one of them. It's a good song and I would bet anything that if Stevie Wonder recorded it, you wouldn't be able to keep up with all of the "Hold My Hand" appreciation threads.

All this may be true, but when something is sub-par, its sub-par. There is a lot of new music that is lazily contructed by people who don't know a damn thing about making music. There are a lot of well-skilled new artists, too. BUT...
You can't put together a 4 bar loop and sing or rap over it and think that EVERYONE is going to be impressed by it. Jazz heads, classical heads, old soul heads and others will hear that mess, be bored with it and call it what it is - bullshit. It doesn't matter who is on the track. If its weak, its weak.

On point.

Still doesn't change the fact that orgers are in the 2% of people who don't like this song (according to a Billboard poll). It doesn't change the fact that I've seen very positive reviews for this song on every non-MJ website and/or forum except the org. So is it because of this contempt for new music a lot of orgers seems to have? Is it contempt for MJ? I'm just wondering because it seems curious that this song is hated so much by the org. It's no big deal, I was just wondering if it's part of a bigger problem the org has with new music.

Perhaps u put to much thought into what folks on this site thinks. Who gives a fuck? I know I don't. Who cares if it "appears" that many on here can't fuck with new music? Although I don't believe that's true. But if it was, so what? Just because it "appears" that some on this thread dislike this song doesn't mean they dislike new music. From what I gathered, it was more that folks just can't stand Acorn or Acrobat or Anchorage, no, Akon, that's it,...whew...more than them not digging the song. Has nothing to do with it being "brand new" and shit.

The cause of what? lol

I don't understand people wilding out - positively or negatively over what has been just simply a MJ featured vocal. The only exciting thing is that it's MJ's first recorded vocal in seven years besides the WBSS '08 thing.

The problem I have with this song is I can barely hear MJ. If I wanted to hear Akon I'd listen to an Akon song.

There's a slight chance these songs could've both been INVINCIBLE leftovers.

Nah, We've Had Enough didn't really have the overproduced feel of the Invincible tracks lol

Really? It could've been new (I believed it WAS new at one point when one of my old friends, Nick (Voyage) sent me the song on AIM Messenger a month before TUC came out) but Rodney was the co-producer of it. I'm just saying. lol

From Billboard:

It's awesome! I can't wait till M.J. makes a comeback and drops an album! 85%

I wasn't too impressed by it. It sounds like a poor man's version of "We Are The World." 4%

Shucks! I didn't get a chance to hear it before the label pulled it off the web. 11%
TOTAL RESPONSE - 274

I dont think so, because most of these kind of online polls dont truly reflect the general public's perception. Most of these kind of polls are voted on by the artist's fans--I'm pretty sure the link to this poll was posted on a MJ messageboard in a thread that encouraged all the fans to go and vote...it happens all the time lol Thing is anyone can vote on these type of online polls and they can vote more than once--like American Idol. I'm pretty sure that the majority of the 85% who answered "It's awesome! I can't wait till M.J. makes a comeback and drops an album!" were from MJ fans.

Is Prince.org the only place on the internet that has trashed HMH? Maybe, maybe not, I dunno. What I do know that is that MJ fans have a very large and very vocal presence on the web--they're active in online polls, blogs, messageboards, etc., ready and willing to respond positively to any article that praises MJ, or come down swiftly with heavy condemnation of any article that bashes MJ, complete with their facts of why Mike is innocent, was never found guilty, is the biggest selling artist of all time, nobody can touch him, etc....I find it hard to believe that MJ fans would be as passionate about this song if it didnt feature Mike's vocals--if it was just an Akon solo or if it a duet between Akon and Usher. hmmm

Another board I frequent reacted similar to the song as some of y'all did, lol. When I posted it, some of them were saying "this shit is atrocious". Something to that effect, lol.
