Let the descent begin! With all due respect to The King of Punk Funk, I think HE was feeling that performance more than anyone else. Television was not Rick's best medium. I think the interview was the best part of that clip. When Dave asked him "When you're not performing, what do you do”, I was thinking "SMOKE CRACK!". Also, very touching how he gave a shout-out to his Mom, whom he loved dearly. I know it broke his heart that she passed away while he was in prison.

My heart still goes out to Rick, and still can't believe that he's gone. May he be resting peacefully.

Co-Sign Dude never did well on T.V he had great records but he really did not have that presence for T.V.

You guys are out of your minds.

I would take Slick Rick's stage presence over ANYBODY today with fancy stage tricks to help 'em.

I don't know, I have to agree with the others. Rick James seemed rather ... neutered on TV, because he's constrained from doing any of his wild stuff and have the big blow-out band treatment. Also, why perform "You Blow My Mind (69 Times)" instead one of his two hits, "Dance wit' Me" or "Hard to Get?"

shrug

It is what it is.

I know its a poor choice of song selection but there's no mistaking that the man commanded attention from that dead audience, at least I'll give him THAT credit.

LOL He could've performed it on SNL or something. Why Dave? lol He already had enough problems dealing with Madonna harassing him in '94. lol

Yeah, that was my point. "Saturday Nite Live" is more likely a stage where Rick James could have performed and he could go all-out.

Not speaking of his stage presence as a whole, I've seen him in concert in the 70's, 80's, and lastly about 2 years before he passed. Each concert was DYNO-MITE! I'm speaking of how he came across on TV.

This is why I love Youtube, there are all kinds of rare vidoes of my favorites on there and RJ is one of my favs from back then.

69 Times was an odd but funny choice to sing on national TV, I like how he tried to make the crowd respond, classic shit, LOL!!

Then do yourself a big favor and do not watch him on T.V. I could list 20 fucking performances that P has done on T.V that people are still talking about.
You cannot say that about Rick. Some of you guys are such haters that you are out of touch with reality.

I thought Rick did good for what he was working with, and the band was tight. Although I don't know about the audience I think the chants through his performance off a bit. Good stuff.
