Terence Trent D'Arby This was a seriously amzing first album by anyone, Introducing the Hardline had some incredible songs like Sign Your name and Wishing Well (Very prince like) yet his subsequent releases were unlistenable. Does anyone else know of or apreciate this largely unknown artiste 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

Ah yes, the artist formerly known as TTD is quite a popular favorite with many of us orgers. You can expect some replies in no time. And yes, "Hardline" was a funky record.
I like chatting with my man Sananda sometimes on Myspace. And yes, he does respond to people that write to him with some interesting and insightful things. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I love his debut, but Symphony or Damn and Vibrator are my two favorite albums from him. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I love his debut, but Symphony or Damn and Vibrator are my two favorite albums from him. I really liked Symphony or Damn. It took me a while to get into all of his albums....but after listening to them several times, they grew on me. I love "Delicate" and "Turn The Page". **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

i will echo everyone else .
Terence had an odd 2nd album (Neither fish nor flesh ) that never really caught on with his core fans i believe --- but it does have some gems ... AFTER that --- all the albums are MUST haves ... in my opinion ... (altho the latest ones i am not sure of ...cus i downloaded them ... and really havnt played them yet ... ) Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

What are you talking about?!! You obviously haven't heard 'Vibrator', 'Wildcard', 'Angels & Vampires, Vols. I & II'. I think all his albums are listenable and enjoyable. Nor do I think he is largely unknown. Maybe State side but he seems to have a solid career in Europe. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Wildcard is my favorite. 'Suga Free', 'What Shall I Do', 'Testify', 'Some Birds Blue'. All on the same album. 'Holding On to You' on Vibrator is the bomb though. One of those records that brings tears. I can so relate which probably makes it so indelible. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Wildcard is better than the albums Prince has released since Gold.
Actually Wildcard is one of the best soul/r&b/funk albums in this decade. Maxwell, Jill, D´Angelo, Erykah, Prince, Stevie - nobody is even close. But he is doing the same kind of sometimes stupid "marketing" campaings like Prince. Changing the name, selling in internet only and NO promotion. Actually I don't have his latest music (Angeles & Vampires), because I hate MP3's - I want CDs or vinyl records! Why the hell do I have to listen to him from my computer or i-pod when I can buy everybody´s music still from the record store?

He needs to be resigned to a major but with the state of things today he doesn't stand a chance. The only way he's going to be heard is to tour relentlessly. When was the last time he toured the states? He must be pretty well off because it seems like he can afford not to care. [Edited 6/26/08 9:02am]

His first album I have very little interest for. The fun starts only after that.

The only stuff I've heard from him that I didn't like was Angels & Vampires. The songs were fine, as was the singing, but something was way off with the arrangements & playing. My Legacy

He really went out after the first album, but the Song Delicate was a minor hit here in 1993, its alright but no "Sign your name" or "If you let me stay" and well Vibrator was strange, rather Lenny style ripoffs. 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

I dont mean to argue with ya .. but i find Terence more original than Prince ... I think "symphony or damn", "vibrator" and "wildcard" are soooo good ... many artists get "thrown to the wolves" after their debut album and have a terrible sophomore effort ... even terence's second album got good reviews ... and i have seen great reviews for the others i mentioned . I would say that he had a minor hit with "she kissed me there" ... also ... "delicate" but he never really had the record label behind him - plus he was doing some stupid things (sayin he was the greatest etc, and posing nude ) Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Too skinny for my taste though. Nothing to hold onto. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

?
Terence was a very muscular guy at one point, wouldn't really call him skinny - altough you wouldn't want to catch the guy dancing live in front of your nose at gig. He had the option to become a professional boxer when he was younger.
