FuNkeNsteiN said: First of, I've never claimed to be an "expert on black culture".
Secondly, I'm not trying to be "known as a music snob", I listen to what I want to listen to and occasionally vocal about my opinions on other music. I'm not trying to go out of my way to portray myself as a "snob". You're posting on a thread about a music artist you admitted are not familiar with their music. The only thing you can say is "I hate '80s soul music, I find it cheesy." It's pretty clear by the title of the link that you know the subject matter at hand, and since you have no interest in the topic you continue to post on here. I would call that a case of trying to be "the smartest kid in the room." Particularly when you're going to threads saying the same old tired thing. You said the same thing on a Bar-Kays thread re: the song "Sexomatic" (which, like here, wasn't relevant). You said the same thing on a thread re: Cameo (which is odd, considering virtually all of Cameo's hit songs came in the '80s). BTW, I have no problem with you listening to soul music. What I have a problem is you actually come across as if you discovered something about which no one had heard. Moreover, you want to show how exquisite your tastes are by running into threads re: artists you haven't even heard their catalog and yet making some blind generalization. And as far as old? What a joke -- at your age, someone 25 or 30 is "old" to you. So you can ask your mother for permission to respond, since judging by your profile you're likely still living at home.

THE IMPRESSIONS: Combine Mayfield’s and Butler’s hits with the Impressions’ 50 R&B chart songs and 37 Pop sides and you have three entities rooted in one group that had a total of 133 R&B chart singles and 85 on the Pop list. Add that to their position as one of the early proponents of soul and you’ve got an impressive set of accomplishments. - Taken from their Vocal Group Hall of Fame page. Nothing against The Impressions, but this really isn't relevant to the conversation here.

No, actually there was still some interesting stuff made in the early eighties LittleAmy said: virtually all of Cameo's hit songs came in the '80s

I did't say old, I said middle-aged. Yes, I live at 'home', but my home and my parents' home are in two different addresses It's funny how you should accuse me of only "saying the same old tired thing", when you yourself are repeating the exact same shit you told to me the last time we had this so called conversation Also, I now (thanks to a certain somebody's orgnote) remember your former alter ego, "Najee". The account is no longer active though, guess you got yourself banned. How about getting yourself banned again Gah, I don't even know why I'm wasting my time responding to you It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Again, that's in your opinion. Moreover, it still doesn't answer the question you constantly have avoided: Why are you even commenting on this thread re: New Edition when you clearly have no opinion about their music in particular? FuNkeNsteiN said: ... And all of their best albums in the 70's
Again, your opinion. Moreover, your opinion is one of a music snob, because you are locked into a rather close-minded opinion of music about music past a certain period (which is even more peculiar, since your exposure is purely in the context of discovering music years after your birth). FuNkeNsteiN said: I did't say old, I said middle-aged.
Again, to you 30 is pushing middle-aged. Not to mention you don't know my age, so that is a rather speculative assumption. Again, another presumption based on nothing. I've never been a member of this site until this year, but then again all your personal comments (race, age, identity) are presumptuous. But then, that's typical. [Edited 6/30/08 7:53am]

Did you figure that out all by yourself? Whoa, you sure are bright! If I happen to think that Cameo's best work was recorded in the 70s, it's automatically a "music snob" opinion? You really are something, Najee, yes indeed It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Like I previously mentioned, I first replied to this thread when someone claimed there weren't people around who hadn't heard NE's music. OK, but then you make a generalized comment about soul music in the late '80s and '90s, the period of New Edition's run. So it's an implied connection, given the context of the conversation. However, for someone who knows about some obscure '70s soul acts it's interesting you know nothing about an '80s/early '90s group that mostly was more prominent. First of all, I'm not your "sis." Second, don't assume I'm a female. Third, again you're making a generalized comment about an act in that period in a thread about said act -- moreover, you admitted to not knowing any of New Edition's music (as a group or its spinoff acts) so you're contradicting yourself. FuNkeNsteiN said: Also, if I make the occasional comment about how I feel about music from the era in question, on a damn Internet forum, I don't think it's such big a deal, really
I'm not taking this stuff all too seriously either, it's more like good-natured teasing Quite frankly, it makes no sense to me. That would be like me going into a U2 thread and start making generalized comments about late '80s and '90s acts in that genre and not hearing one song about the group. It's basically a comment that comes off as you trying to be the smartest kid in the room. [Edited 6/29/08 2:08am] Seriously, check the "Rapture" thread, Funkenstein! He used these same lines and phrasing! Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Also, if he doesn't want to be mistaken for a female, well, maybe he shouldn't choose a female screen name. Just a thought Also, "not to mention you don't know my age", well on the "Rapture" thread, you say you were a teenager in the 70s, so that would make you over 40 now. Guess I was correct after all, Najee.
