It doesn't fit Cameo doing this because their funk was unique in it's own right. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Maybe it was an "homage" to P-Funk? yeah, I'm not believing it either. [Edited 6/23/08 1:23am]

70's Cameo kicks 80's Cameo's ass, big time

Nevertheless, it is still some nasty stanky funk.
I think all of these funk bands were influenced by each other in some way. Some just get more credit than others. I appreciate this more than i do cameo's word up. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

What the hell does that mean?? Never knew what that meant.. I ain't gonna lie.....I know it for mainly being used for embalming the dead and in building materials. I don't know either, in this song , But in the intro, you here them say "Lt. Morbid(diseased, deathly, doom) whats the condition of the planets surface", Lt. Morbid says "my instruments indicate a condition of extreme Rigor Mortis (stiffening of the muscles Post Mortem) spreading highly throughout the planet"... So as Capt. Smith says it... "A bunch of stiffs".... I guess. [Edited 6/23/08 20:20pm]

It sounded too much like P-Funk, who was an obvious influence. Yeah, a lot of their early stuff was a bit contrived. They were still trying to "find their way", I suppose.
But when "Secret Omen" and "Cameosis" hit, it was all over. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

What the hell does that mean?? Never knew what that meant.. Their stage act used to feature a lot of "death" themes. For example, Larry used to make his grand appearance to the stage when they'd wheel a glass coffin to the stage. They'd turn it, the coffin would raise up, the door would open, and Larry would pop out it, and the funk would begin. If Parliament was exploiting the whole "outer space" thing during the 70's, Cameo was exploiting "the living dead". The coffin was Larry's answer to George Clinton's "Mothership".

Yeah, Cameo got the coffin idea from Parliament. I'm surprised how some of you so-called funk authority people didn't know that. Cameo was heavily influenced by P-Funk and The Ohio Players (please tell me some of you knew Cameo's original name was The New York Players), and in interviews Larry Blackmon has cited EWF's Maurice White as a personal influence. [Edited 6/24/08 5:34am] I didn't know about the coffin deal but i did know they were originally called the new york city players but had to change their name to prevent confusion with OP. Yeah i also know about cameo touring with P-Funk and the barkays back in the day. Larry also stated that when cameo started he learned the ropes from touring with the P-funk and the barkays. There was a video on youtube where parliament was jamming flashlight and members of the barkays and cameo joined the p-funk on stage for that jam session. That is funk history right tharr. Priceless! Don't laugh at my funk
