Madonna - Desperately Seeking Susan! Ok so I finally saw this film for the first time and I absolutely love it. I think the story is great and thought Madonna was realy good in it though I know some people say she's basicaly playing herself. She was so cool back then and had so much style. What do you all think of this flick? I thought Aidan Quinn was hot!!

I love this film. Obviously the best of Madge's career, but Rosanna Arquette is really the one who carries the movie. Madonna didn't have to do much in it. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

It's Madonna in a good strong supporting role. It's actually a better part than the lead. I think I like it so much since it's a very eighites movie.

I think that's what is so confusing to me because it is hyped up as a Madonna movie.. I was expecting it to be like Purple Rain or some shit.

I think that's what is so confusing to me because it is hyped up as a Madonna movie.. I was expecting it to be like Purple Rain or some shit. I think one reviewer said that and because of her popularity (and that of "Purple Rain"), the studio ran with it. To some degree, it's kind of the Madonna movie in it's essence (and what people thought of Madonna at the time). It's New York (it is set in New York, right?), it's fun, dangerous, sexy, eighties, it's got dance music..."The Madonna Movie". I wonder how the addition of the "Into the Groove" worked into the movie. Did they insist on it after the fact? Why didn't it make the soundtrack (was it blocked as a single release in the US?). I remember during her "Evita" days, Madonna said something to the effect of thinking it was one of her worst songs. Maybe that's why she tried to change it with Shep Pettibone (and ulimately made it very bland).

This movie sucks I tried to watch the DVD a few years ago and I turned it off after 30 minutes.Never understood why so many people like this movie. The only reason why it's so popular is because of the "Madonna hype" of 1985.

Maybe that's why she tried to change it with Shep Pettibone (and ulimately made it very bland). After its successful release on 23 July 1985, "Into the Groove" was added to the Like a Virgin album in Europe. The song became one of Madonna's signature hits and record stores in the States actually had to put up signs to tell consumers that the song was available on the "Angel" maxi-single. Due to similar problems with "Crazy for You" and "Material Girl" being released at similar times and competing with each other, in the United States it was decided against releasing "Into the Groove" as a single so it would not compete with "Angel" off the Like a Virgin album. You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

I liked Desperately Seeking Susan too. Madonna acting was nothing special but it did make the movie worth watching.

Thanks for clearing that up.I remember in the spring/summer of '85,it seemed like Madonna singles were being released left and right. It was insane! To me,it seemed like "Crazy For You","Into The Groove","Angel" and "Dress You Up" were all being played on the radio around the same time!

You have truly, truly AWFUL taste. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I think that's what is so confusing to me because it is hyped up as a Madonna movie.. I was expecting it to be like Purple Rain or some shit. Yeah, there are actually about three other characters who spend a lot more time on screen than she does, and they do a lot more too. Madonna's character is kind of a blank canvas who doesn't really go on any dramatic journey. It's really Rosanna Arquette's movie, but you can understand why they sold it as a Madonna flick. She was new and hot. It was inevitable, but it was also misleading. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

[Edited 6/15/08 7:45am] Dude, if I got run over, went bankrupt and my house was repossessed, that would still be preferable to having your taste.
