Covers that you like better than originals

Which covered songs, not sampled, do you like better than the original recording?
I like:

Britney Spears - My Prerogative
better than
Bobby Brown - My Prerogative

Michael Jackson - Come Together
better than
The Beatles - Come Together

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - All Along The Watchtower
better than
Bob Dylan - All Along The Watchtower

Eric Clapton - Layla
better than
Derek & The Dominos - Layla

A Perfect Circle - Imagine
better than
John Lennon - Imagine

Brandy - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
better than
Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You

prince - Shhh
better than
Tevin Campbell - Shhh
(Tevin did release his first, even if prince wrote it)

Seal - Walk On By
better than
Dionne Warwick - Walk On By

Terence Trent D'Arby - A Change Is Gonna Come
better than
Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come

Jackson 5 - Who's Lovin' You
better than
The Miracles - Who's Lovin' You

Lenny Kravitz - American Woman
better than
The Guess Who - American Woman

Michael Jackson - Smile
better than
Nat "King" Cole - Smile

That's all I can think of.

The only two that really jump out at me are Devo's version of 'Satisfaction' and Luther Vandross' 'House Is Not A Home' and 'Superstar'. I'm sure I'll think of some others later.

I do too! I think I might prefer the Pretenders' version of "Private Life", though. hmmm

i like the family's version but prince's version is a little bland compared to sineanay's version.

"Warm Leatherette" for sure, but "Love is the Drug" is totally Roxy Music's.

Third World's version of the O'Jay's - "Now That We Found Love" is much better than the original.

UB40's - Red, Red, Wine is better than Neil Diamond's version.

So true.

This song has been covered so many times but MJ's is the best.

Nothing beats Martha Reeves and that classic 60's Motown production.

I love the original Martha version but Sheena Easton's version, produced by Nile Rodgers, for her DO YOU album comes close (for me).

Agreed. I like the groove of it and the organ stuff in the chorus. nod

Another one is Rascal Flatts' cover of "Life Is A Highway" over Tom Cochrane's original. The Flatts version is candy, but it rocks and their harmonies sound great on it. http://www.youtube.com/wa...8x-Ul6jShk

I will have to disagree with you two times there. Which version of "Demolition Man" came out first? I LOVE Grace's version.

I like Bauhaus Ziggy cover more than the original. Maybe because I heard it first.

i think the bauhaus version of ziggy has more punch, but i'm more loyal to the bowie version. i do prefer their version of 'third uncle' to the brian eno original, though. 'telegram sam' is a toss-up. shrug

i think the police's version of "demolition man" came first, though i might be wrong about that. i know sting did it live and re-recorded it for that lame-ass sly stallone movie by the same title. i think everyone thinks of it as a grace song regardless.

OH: and it's also a toss-up for me between grace and iggy with "nightclubbing". both are pretty sweet.
