And I've already explained to you what I don't like about U2's music. Somebody else explained it well too- half of an album is pretty good, and the other half is filler. That's their formula. I prefer to listen to complete albums by the really talented songwriters. Now Bono might be a good songwriter for the occasional song (One, With or Without You, Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Beautiful Day) but when he fills up an album with quality songs I'll start listening to them again. Their last album was the closest they've come to that, so they are improving. But at least us casual fans have the singles.

As far as having to own everything an artist does to get a full picture of their artistic abilities, some of us are white collar workers that pay bills. I can't afford to buy every David Bowie album in existence. And why should I buy "Boy". Just to see where they came from? Hell no. Seriously, I was trying to explain what RD meant. I knew what he meant from the get-go, but I seriously doubt you and Jtgillia did. You two took it the wrong way. I really have no problem with anyone thinking U2 is overrated. I was defending the principal of explaining why someone thinks they're overrated and/or some of their music "sucks beyond belief." Nothing more, nothing less. And since Madonna was the easiest example I cold think of I used her example. Although I usually post in very small percentage of Madonna threads, I have explained why I think she's all hype and little substance. I'm trying to get people to be rational, regardless of whether anyone agrees or not. Most times I just like to be enlightened as to the reasons why.
