U2!! I need advice guys! I really like U2's music, well, the singles i've heard. got a video of them live in mexico (Amazing) and the "All that you can't leave behind" lp
I want more of their stuff. i've heard Achung Baby and Joshua Tree are good places to start. If i just brought both the greatest hits collections would that cover it? Or would this be similar to buying Prince's greatest hits collection and missing out on all those classiscs?! HELP ME PLEASE! thanks, "London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"
"YEAH!!!" "Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"

This tread reminds me of something Prince has said during the 2nov rotterdam soundcheck.
I don't know wat the phrase was exactly, but is was something like: i like ... but not u2. and afterwards he asked : did you get it, i said : 'but not u2' (reffering to the group u2) Does anyone recall exactly what he said ? [This message was edited Thu Nov 7 7:43:25 PST 2002 by Naqua]

I want more of their stuff. i've heard Achtung Baby and Joshua Tree are good places to start. If you have ATYCLB & get Achtung Baby & Joshua Tree you, IMHO, would have their 3 best cds. Then if you want more pick up both of the greatest hits that are the 2 cd sets because they each have a cd of b-sides. I bought the new greatest hits at Wal-Mart yesterday - its on sale for $14.88 which includes a bonus DVD along with the 2 cd set.

Get the two greatest hits collections and leave it at that. All that You Can't Leave Behind is their only album I can sit through all the way.
The second half of Joshua Tree sucks beyond belief, and several songs on Achtung are complete throwaways. Zooropa is even more consistent than Achtung! Avoid the "Pop" album by all means...

Don't listen to him! He's nuts. Especially about Achtung Baby. That is their masterpiece and every song is a keeper. I think the following albums are all wonderful and worth checking out- Boy War The Unforgettable Fire Joshua Tree Achtung Baby Zooropa Passengers Pop All That You Can't Leave Behind Of course their greatest hits are a great place to start. Often a compilation is the best way to get into an artist. It gets you hooked and wanting more. Plus the b-sides and remixes on the 2nd discs are so great. I'd say pick up Achtung and both greatest hits and see what happens.

Rattle and Hum is an album that everyone should own. That and Achtung Baby are of a standard that few bands have ever got even close to being in the same league as. These 2 albums, if not already owned, need to be.
I'm not gonna bother listing the highlights, suffice to say, that there isn't a bad song amonst them. -----------------------------------------

I said "please"..but Im just trying to help you out since you dont seem to know about the quality of U2 music which is painfully evident in what you said . It isnt about not being able to handle a supposed superior opinion, its about trying to help you not look foolish on the subject.Re-read what you wrote and edit it before more see it. But that's on you bruh... "Climb in my fur."

I hope that's sarcasm. Btw, no REAL U2 fan would diss Joshua Tree and Actung Baby. But nothing's wrong with being a casual fan. I'm not in love with the Joshua Tree as a whole, but to say half of it "sucks beyond belief"... This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

They cant be overrate d because they have been consisitently good..overrated and overexposed are two different thangs..and then again they arent even overexposed in the grand scheme of things. Average band? Okkaaay...now this is just geting biased and silly. "Climb in my fur."

Just because I have a different opinion than yours, doesn't mean I've said stupid things about music. I happen to be very educated on the subject. And I'm sure not getting into something I don't know about, as I have all of U2's studio albums from Joshua Tree on. I don't listen to any of them hardly though, because they're exceptionally mediocre.

And to back up my shit, this is why I said it--- for JT Gilla:
You said avoid PoP--POP has excellent vision in the songs they created. Gone is simply powerful. If God Will Send His Angels is sweet..Staring At The Sun is classic in melody, lyrics and music..can be played acoustically by a campfire or in fornt of 20,000 people.MOFO is the sound of the world beuing destroyed and awesome guitar work with a beat. Wake Up Dead Man is a plea-accusation on Jesus and the world he leaves behind. Playboy Mansion on the extremees of celebrity and all it's bullshit etc..all of these set to daring music. Discoteque the sound of a serious band experimenting with danc e and electronica and being successful regardless.. There is not one throw-away on AB...thats just dumb. Zoo station, Ultra Violett is a perfect song as is Acrobat, the somber Love Is Blindness, the beautiful So cruel. The Fly is heavy metal and powerful. Tryin To Throw Your Hands is what 2 in the morning sounds like..those arent singles that were overplayed so I dont know what you meant by throwaways on Achtung baby etc...saying the one off side hurried project of Zooropa with the brilliant Numb-Stay-and others as being more consistent thjen what it stemmed from though is just ignorant... The second half of JT "sucking beyond belief" is just fucking stupid to sday. Im sure you only can hang with the first 3 songs played on radio and the other half is to esoterical for you etc..Red Hill Mining Town, Trip Through Your Wires, Running to Stand Still --all delaing with employment, heroin addiction etc you blast..goddamn your take on U2 is plain ignorant. Fuck an opinion..you have been reading to many Entertainment Weekly quick synopsis reviews. I shouldnt be aso harsh anyways..some music is like spending a long day at a museum when people are used to going to an amusement park. Im a music snob...thank GOD!!! "Climb in my fur."

Owning records doesnt mean you are well versed or knowledgable about them. "The second half of JT sucks beyond belief" proves that shit. Thats mor e ignorant than when FunkyStrange and his dipshit ass said Jimi Hendrix was overrated...becasue he doesnt know any better. Miles davis or Joni Mitchell playing -"hey turn that shit off..and put on something thatas listenable please" "Climb in my fur."

Much respect goes to
Bono and the U2 crew. I haven't got any of their albums but I always have liked what I've heard. I respect the fact that they always let their music do the talking and not the act (like so many fakers out there today) Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

But having all their studio albums from the Joshua Tree on is sort of akin to someone saying they have all of Springsteen's albums from Born In The USA on, like they only got interested with his biggest seller and have no interest in anything before it. Like I said, there is nothing wrong with being a casual fan, and I'm really not trying to come down on you. But usually if someone were to ask which albums to buy by a specific artist they'd usually want to ask a more serious fan who was into said artist's music even before their biggest seller (if their biggest seller was later on down the line). I certainly wouldn't tell a potential Prince fan that nothing Prince did prior to Purple Rain was without merit. Because nothing would be further from the truth. I'm not what one would call a hardcore U2 fan, but I'm just trying to be objective. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I really throw my hands up when I hear people say that statement beause it means that their mind is closed on the subject and they are biased. If you want me to tell you whats so special about U2 or any artists dick I ride then I will tell you..do you want me to..or do you "honestly" need me to explain whats so special? And its not justs Bonos writing,..Edge is just as much a part of their sound, writing etc as Bono."Everyone" knows that. Hey asshole, I'm glad you like the lyrics to Joshua Tree so much. I won't debate they aren't meaningful. Too bad the music is way too bland to back it up. Same story with most of the non-singles on Achtung. It's true, I only like their singles for the most part. Sue me.
Pop had Discotheque, Do You Feel Loved, Mofo, and Staring at the Sun. Everything else is in dire need of a real melody. You're arrogant attitude towards an differing opinion is about as cool as hellfire.

Despite all I've said, I still have respect for U2 and enjoy some of their work. I am actually thinking about picking up War and Unforgettable Fire, but haven't gotten around to it.
You'd think I said something completely homophobic or something- for God's sakes lighten up.

I was right all the while...and same story...music bland...straight up..youre an ass..not because of your so called "honest" opinion, but that you are basically full of shit obviously and cant back your shit up. Okaaay..AB music is "bland"..damn. Thats a GOOD one...JT says "alll Jimi did was play geetar , whats the big deal"... You're arrogant attitude towards an differing opinion is about as cool as hellfire. I dont have an arrogant attitude towards differing opnions..I have an arrogant attitude to people saying things that they have not one iota of what theyre talking about.Which you have proved.Im not coming down on you--only your ignorant opinion. .
