Z Cult Favorite/People Get Ready/The Impressions/Rod Stewart

In light of the other Curtis thread, I wanted to do something high lighting a great cover version of a great timeless song; People Get Ready. I'm not usually a fan of cover songs unless it's Hendrix covering Dylan but here's another exception. One of Curtis's best songs "People Get Ready" with The Impressions from 1965 is a glorious gospel flavored track. A classic. I also dig Rod Stewart's version from 85. Rod threw down on this mainly because u can hear that he himself loves this song. U can hear it in his singing. Plus having Jeff Beck on axe took it to another level. Love the hell out of Beck's playing on this. I always got goosebumps from both of these tracks. I always dug Rod but when he first released this, I developed a new respect for Rod. He and Jeff both truly understood Mayfield's hope in the song. They understood the nuances of the song. And I think, in their way, they did a great job conveying Curtis's message. Meaning they didn't lose any of the emotion of the original. Obviously Rod adored the track and it showed. Who else on here who don't mind posting digs these two versions?

I never cared for The Impressions' version but I could at least tolerate it. I absolutely hated Rod Stewart's version and cussed him for making it. I was used to stuff like "Passion", "Tonight I'm Yours", "Hot Legs", "Infatuation", etc. Beginning with "People Get Ready", Rod had completely dropped his hard side and became adult contemporary. Oh somebody please make the late 80s stop! Horrible years! lol

Haha!! Wow, kinda surprised u don't like the o.g. version, Vain. I like those cuts u mentoned by Rod too. I even dig "Tonight's The Night". But yeah, "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" and "Tonight, I'm Yours" & "Young Turks" are all gems to me. So I've always dug Rod.

An "all-star" version of the tune featuring...

...Jeff Beck, Steve Lukather, Carlos Santana, Jan Hammer, Doug Wimbish & Simon Phillips

Jimmy Hall & Buddy Miles are on vocals.
Not a very sensitive version but an interesting group.
