oooh! I gotta remember to catch this. Just listened to his new album. LOVE it! "Try to remember how you used to feel about me
and think about how you're treating me now. Then try to reconcile them, if you can. But you don't even remember, do you?"

The Reverend did 2 numbers from upcoming album...
...Lay It Down (Tuesday 5/27) Standing In The Rain closed The Tonight Show. Afterwards he performed Lay It Down. (which can possibly be seen here for at least a few more hours. Watching the band during rehearsal/soundcheck that afternoon, I was struck by how much joy and enthusiasm he still has for the music. And that brings up an issue. Hopefully all of us that were graced with "advanced copies" (regardless of how they were acquired) and claim to have an affection for true Soul/R&B music will go out next Tuesday and actually buy a copy of the album. Give the man some respect while he's still alive to appreciate it. Off of the soapbox, The Tonight Show band (led by guitarist Kevin Eubanks) sounds very good and comes across quite well in the studio. Got a chance to talk to Kevin after the show. Nice fellow. An insightful response from his website as to why less talented people seem to make it these days... Music is one thing and business is another. It's called the music business and right now, it's more about the business. This is not the age of the Artist. We don't count as much as we have in the past. It's sad. Those that have a talent for business will do better at this point. Those who have both will do the best. There was a time when an Artist was respected. That is not this day. This does not only pertain to music. It is pervasive in all the Arts today. It can also be seen in the absence of spirit in our society. The Arts or Spirit is the blade of grass sticking out of the block of cement. This society is looking for what can be held in hand, not what can be held in the heart. So what does the Artist matter? We are not material enough to matter. ...http://www.kevineubanks.c..._talk.aspx tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Found a video of a wacky woman interviewing some of Al Green's band members in front of The Tonight Show studios. Do you have a name?
I meet musicians all the time here in ATL that know/have heard of The Professor....some reactions good, some not....I'm guessing it might depend upon what grade he gave them "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

I'll get it from Al and let you know. Regarding his students, I know he kicked one kid out of class for not practicing while I was there last week. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431tA "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. He can be a bit harsh, sometimes when it is not necessary....hopefully it was deserved this time. I actually phrased that wrong. He told me about it while I was there. It happened the prior semester. Look, if you have an assignment due on a given day and that assignment is to be able to play a certain piece of music and it becomes obvious on the day of the assignment that you haven't put any time into learning the piece at all, what do you expect? Btw, the Chairman backed him. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I want to comment on the Kevin Eubanks quote, however do not want to jack, nor distract from the Al Green thread.....care to start another on this topic? "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."
