BOBBY WOMACK SCANDAL:

It was bad enough that Bobby Womack (Sam Cooke's protege) married Cooke's widow (Barbara) three months after his death 'But' what Womack reveals in his new autobiography, "Midnight Mover," is even more disturbing. During the marriage, Womack was creeping into his stepdaughter's (Linda's) room at night and having sex with her until Barbara caught him and held a gun against his head. She told him to get the fu** out of her house. Womack ran to the garage, Barbara followed and shot at him, the bullet grazed his scalp. This is the reason for their divorce in 1970. Linda would marry Bobby's brother and she would never speak to her mother again.

Bobby Womack admits in his autobiography "Midnight Mover," that Sam Cooke's family had a real problem with him marrying Sam's widow (Barbara). Especially, Sam's brother, Charlie. He told Womack, shortly after the marriage, "Man, anybody else could have married Sam's wife, but you. Sam loved you, man." If you ever come to Chicago...The threat was left hanging in the air but I knew what it meant.

I figured if Charlie was going to do something, I wanted to get it over and done with. Barbara and I flew to Chicago. We checked into the 'Roberts Motel,' and I called Charlie. I told him, 'I'm here. We're in 2112.' In the motel room, Barbara busied herself loading bullets into a pistol. Barbara had a mean streak in her.

Charlie showed up with his two brothers David and L.C. I opened the door and Charlie punched me. He beat me so bad-my whole head swelled up like a melon. My teeth came through my lip. He beat me unconscious. He even broke my jaw. Barbara came out of the bathroom screaming.

She made a grab for the gun, she pointed it and pulled the trigger. It just clicked (I had removed the bullets while she was in the bathroom, before our guests arrived). Charlie and his brothers left. The cops were called, when they arrived and saw my condition, they said Charlie would do time. They arrested him later that evening but I declined to press charges. He was released and Barbara and I went on with our lives.

Both Cecil Womack (the same guy that married LINDA COOKE) and Curtis Womack fucked and married Mary Wells (the famous MOTOWN star).

Cecil and Mary were married for ten years (1967-77) while Curtis married her later on and were estranged when Mary died in 1992. And she had babies with both brothers too!

well, to come to Bobby's defense SLIIIIGHTLY, Linda was of consenting age (in most states the age of consent is younger than 18) and wasn't biologically related to him so it's not quite as bad as the phrase "he slept with his stepdaughter" might seem on first glance. Since she was undoubtedly post-pubescent there isn't anything pedophilic about it, and since she wasn't related to him it's not incestuous either. It's adulterous and well, for lack of a better word, f*cked up, but it's not incestuous or pedophilic.

Secondly, I had heard some theories that there was more to Sam Cooke's death than the official court account would have us believe, but I'd never heard any implication that Bobby was involved.

Wow. Kind of puts new "Understanding" on Bobby's "Facts of Life".



But honestly I'm guessing that very little of my music collection would be filled with people that were anywhere near as great at being human as they were musical artists.

And Bobby no doubt was terrific at times in the studio. If only he and others could take that same brilliance with them in the rest of their walks.

I read the whole book and I am not defending Bobby. What he did was shameful.
However, he was high out of his mind on coke and I think he really married Sam's wife because he felt sorry for her. In addtion, the whole Sam/Barabra marriage was a hot-mess. Read Bobby's book and read "Dream Boogie" a book about Sam Cooke. Everybody involved was more than a little disturbed.
