D'Angelo: The Best So Far (CD/DVD) May 7, 2008 Link Website: dangeloonline Soul crooner D'Angelo's top hits, music videos and collaborative tracks to date, including rare recordings for soundtracks and other compilations, have been gathered for 'The Best So Far...' Featuring 17 audio tracks and seven previously unreleased music videos, 'The Best So Far...' will be released June 24 on CD/DVD by Virgin/EMI. A 15-track digital album and four video downloads will also debut June 24, as well as four ringtunes. D'Angelo established himself as a spectacular new solo talent at the age of 21 with the 1995 release of his double platinum debut album, Brown Sugar, trailblazing new musical ground as an innovative songwriter and vocalist. With his sultry grooves and cool falsetto, evocative of artists such as Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder and Prince, D'Angelo carried classic soul's torch into new territory. By the time D'Angelo's second album, Voodoo, debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums and Top R&B/Rap Albums charts in January 2000, he was fully established as a soul superstar. Produced and written by D'Angelo and recorded live with no overdubs, Voodoo won the year's Grammy Award for Best R&B Album, and D'Angelo also won the Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Untitled (How Does It Feel)." The new collection is titled The Best So Far ... because D'Angelo is far from finished, currently writing and recording his highly anticipated next musical chapter. CD: 1. Lady 2. Brown Sugar 3. Cruisin' 4. Me And Those Dreamin' Eyes Of Mine 5. Smooth 6. I Found My Smile Again 7. Girl, You Need A Change Of Mind 8. She's Always In My Hair 9. Can't Hide Love [live] 10. Heaven Must Be Like This 11. Your Precious Love [Erykah Badu with D'Angelo] 12. Devil's Pie (A Cappella Interlude) 13. Left And Right [with Method Man and Redman] 14. Untitled (How Does It Feel) 15. Would've been better if they released a DVD of one of the Voodoo Tour shows with the Soultronics and his videos as a bonus.
I really don't see too much interest in a greatest hits cd..labels suck [Edited 5/7/08 22:25pm]

I´m thinking about buying this release just to have his version of She´s Always In My Hair because I still haven´t heard it and some of those other , more obscure covers and soundtrack songs. All in all, I already have almost all those songs in some format, be it vinyl 12", or soundtrack ( High School High ) but there are still a few tracks I don´t have. But, being a huge fan of his music, I have his two albums and the live album from the London Jazz Café, plus a couple of videos on some VHS tapes ....so , this is really a release that is not that tempting.
Speaking about him being over and burned out and fat....I think he just needs a couple of weeks at the gym, a good diet, maybe a personal trainer or a good friend who´s very fit and inspirational, and then he´ll be OK again. I saw the Voodoo show and D´Angelo is no joke, and definitely not a one hit wonder or a weak artist. He just lost his discipline, that ´s all, but he´s definitely got a lot of potential. Even Alan Leeds said that he´s got ton s of stuff recorded, it´s just some label problems and personal demons that he has to battle first but I would not write him off so easily. Brother just needs some help. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

This guy kills me....
Loved Voodoo.... brilliant. Had tix to 2 shows and he canceled both!!!!! NYC and DC. This is weak, probably a contract thing, but he needs to release something new. And please don't tell me about his collaborations, I want a new full length album.... I would settle for a live show from the voodoo tour.. Music is the best...

Its Prettymansson in a new spring 2008 body ! I hear ya...He's super soulful..But, light years away from Prince when it comes to gettin WORK done ! & Focusing on his Career. A shame because he was truly in the position to be the Next Man about 8 years ago ! Bishop31 said: I still don't see how anyone can even remotely compare this cat to Prince. I'll buy this for the videos (and because I love D), but can we at least get "Really Love" as a single? "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

^ I wouldn't exactly count him out just yet.
Not a fan of his, but I was hoping Sony would've put out a CD/DVD for Maxwell similar to this. It's a good way to lure newer fans, and the older fans would buy strictly for the DVD content. Hey, it's called "Best so far", not greatest hits. I agree though about artists with 2 or 3 albums releasing a hits collection. "Best of" is more appropriate.
