what a wonderful world this would be what a glorious time to be free?? I heard this song on the radio the other day.I remember hearing it in 1982 (83?),but I never knew what it was called! | |

It was an international scientific effort that lasted from July 1, 1957, to December 31, 1958. Scientists from each nation contributed to a number of projects designed to promote scientific and technological advancement. Fagen's song was kind of an ironic look at the difference between what we expect and how things actually turn out. Many people at the time (1957) assumed that in the ensuing decades, the world would see the kind of futuristic advancements that Fagen named in the song -- "spandex jackets", "undersea by rail", cities "powered by the sun", and of course, "By '76, we'll be A-Ok"..... ...
