Oh my...was I EVER drunk and spending waaaay too much time in the clubs going to Susanne Bartsch parties at the height of this. I was a size 0, wore finger waves, and dressed in hot pants, "Avenger" boots, and "that girl" fitted turtlenecks wherever I went: I honestly thought I was some sort of Josephine Baker-Emma Peel-Yoko-Ono hybrid back then...aaah the memories falloff falloff falloff

I remember when this song, I was a DJ here in brooklyn NY.

I had gotten a copy of the test pressing or demo, of this record. I visited a friend of mine who worked at the local record store here and placed it on the platter. I played on about 3 minutes of it and the store went ballistic!!! Everyone wanted to know where they could get it. I was not due out for another few weeks. This reminds one of my favorite house records of that time. It was the last of the "true house" records.

Why was she so upset when SNL spoofed the song and video? It's fucking funny and I don't know how she kept a straight face while filming the video.

She was upset because it was not meant to be a funny video. It was based on a homeless lady that she saw every morning on her way out the door, and that lady would sing, "la da dee la da da, like a gypsy would. She wrote the song as sort of a tribute to not only that lady but to other homeless people as well.Quite frankly, I don't see anything funny about the video.

I was a part of a DJ record pool and that was one of the records that I was lucky enough to get my paws on. Aside from that, during that time, I had a lot of connections within the house music industry, so I have stuff that would make old house head go "WHOA!!! I have not heard that in years"... Like I said, "Gypsy Woman", was the bomb and I still play it to this day. The crowd still goes nuts...

Gypsy Woman is my chit though... I had the cassette maxi single. It reminds me of the summer after grade 4, traveling through United States with my family. smile

This was the time that house music was still a driving force. It's a shame that even though it is still around, it is not as popular as it used to be.

maybe the subject isn't funny, but the song itself and the video is comical in a way.
