Portishead - "Third"

Has anyone given this one a go yet? Listening now. I'm not going to be able to fully take it in until I listen to it at home with the volume up, but it sounds like classic Portishead. I'm sure this release will get overshadowed in today's other big release, but I'm more excited about this one...

I know there were previous topics on this album and I went back a few pages without seeing the others, but since it came out today (at least in the US) I started a new one. Thanks for bringing my attention to those again.

You guys mean the new Santogold record, correct? Everyone seems to be talking about her after she opened for both Björk and Gnarls Barkley. razz

A friend sent me a cut last night to sample. Interesting stuff. I never followed them so much, but I'll need to delve into more.

Any suggestions?

It's not like you have a whole lot from which to choose. lol Their entire back catalog is three albums, two studio, one live.

Dummy - Has the excellent James Bond-sounding single "Sour Times". The rest of the album is very trip hop.

Portishead - A more bleak, creepier sounding electronic recording. Awesome.

PNYC - Roseland NYC - Live in NYC with a 35-piece orchestra.

I'll get it and Portishead later this week. I can't today because I don't want to be dragging CDs with me to the Goldfrapp show after work tonight. I saw Santogold at the Gnarls Barkley show. Her music is very M.I.A.

I could have seen her at the Björk show last year too if I had known at the time that Santogold was really Santi White from Stiffed. Instead, I got to the venue late and missed her set because I didn't know who she was. err

What's so embarrassing about a gay man buying an album by that other person? Isn't it forced upon your person as soon as you walk in the store?

Argh. There is no escaping her today--even on a Portishead thread. mad
