Midnight Star or Ready For The World Who gets your vote:
Midnight Star with such classics as Midas Touch, Wet My Whistle, Freakazoid, No Parking on the Dance Floor, Electricity or the Ready For The World boys with Melvin Riley on vox, Oh Sheila, Digital Display, My Girly, Tonight, Love You Down These two bands were the core of my 12" collection. Can there be a favorite??? ---------------------------------

I love both. But I gotta go with Ready For The World. Midnight Star never had an entire LP that I adored. RFTW? You can't deny Long Time Coming wasn't a classic 80s album.

Midnight Star in a Blow Out.just for "No Parking on the Dance Floor" Alone.that one Album alone could hang with all of RFTW's Entire Catelog IMHO.I like RFTW but they only had a Few Jams.the Calloway Brothers always brought a Jam. mistermaxxx

I like the music of both bands, but I think Midnight Star were a little more original than RFTW.The first two albums by RFTW borrowed a little too heavily from the Prince/Minneapolis Sound.Songs like "Oh Sheila","I'm The One Who Loves You","Mary Goes Round" and "Baby (Let Me Love You)" all sound VERY Prince-like (which is probably why I like those songs so much...lol).
Midnight Star are responsible for one of the best R&B albums of the 80s,the hit-heavy 'No Parking On The Dancefloor'.This album featured dance-crazy electro funk ("Freak-A Zoid","Electricity"),catchy R&B ("Wet My Whistle"),sexy ballads (the aptly titled "Slow Jam") and sizzling mid-tempo grooves ("Playmates"). They followed it up with the equally impressive 'Planetary Invasion' album in 1984.Songs like "Body Snatchers","Operator" and my favorite "Scientific Love" are superb,as is their often-sampled "Curious".Unlike RFTW (who were basically over by 1987),Midnight Star continued to have hits throughout the decade, including "Headlines","The Midas Touch","Don't Rock The Boat" and "Snake In The Grass". So,I guess I would have to go with Midnight Star on this one:) [This message was edited Mon Nov 18 3:05:32 PST 2002 by DavidEye] [This message was edited Mon Nov 18 3:20:44 PST 2002 by DavidEye]

Listen to the last track on their first cd. The one that loves you. I love that song! "I'm The One Who Loves You" is the most Prince-like song they ever did! Check out that drum machine, sounds alot like Prince's 1982/83 material. The stop-start beat makes it impossible to dance to,but it's a killer song..."We've been talking for some months, you love to play your games, but that's alright baby, cuz I got my other dames"
