Best Of Bowie

Anybody have the David Bowie 2 CD set "Best of Bowie". It's rather good and includes a lot of great hits like "Rebel, Rebel", "Let's Dance" and "Young Americans" and great lesser known tracks like "The Heart's Flithy Lesson". Anyone else into Bowie here? And has anyone heard of his album called "Toy", which is suppose to be remakes of his little known songs from the sixties? I probably should ask that question on a Bowie board but I figure if you like Prince you might dig Bowie as well.

Bowie is fantastic, the new 'Best Of' is a great starting point if you like his music, but never really bought many/any of his albums. Each country has their own variation of the new 'Best Of', as different songs were hits in different countries.

The 'Toy' album was shelved, with 2 tracks surfacing in a reworked form on his 'Heathen' album, and many others turning up on b-sides. There was talk of the album still getting a fan-club release through his website though, but it's highly unlikely it will be officially released now.

Yeah, got the UK edition (being a UK resident an' all) and i must say it's rather grand. Now all i've gotta do is round up those classic albums of his from the 70's!

Thank you. That's a very cool website!

So "Toy" might be fan club only? How sad. Would it really be worth the price of joining the fan club? I'm not even part of Prince's but from what I heard some people are dissapointed that they haven't gotten internet exclusive albums yet.

not sure cos Im not in the fan club either, but what Ive heard is that u get a live CD as part of the membership. as for "Toy", I reckon it will be eventually released bit by bit as B-sides over time.. I havent heard any rumblings about it being a fan club item as yet.

Moonbeam

I think this is a great compilation. Other than its inclusion of "Time Will Crawl," ("Never Let Me Down" should just be forgotten), I don't have any complaints. The soundtrack version of "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" is a big bonus. Also, the sequence is nice. I keep playing "Life on Mars?," "Moonage Daydream" and "Suffragette City" over and over again.

There are a few strange gaps. Where is "Starman?" "Aladdin Sane?" "Be My Wife?" I suppose it's difficult to argue for the inclusion of these songs at the expense of the exclusion of others. Maybe a 3-disc set would cover all bases.

I don't actually own any Bowie albums (shame on me I know) so I think I will buy this one. Seems like a good place to start.

TRON

He's had many other decent compilations like Changesbowie, The Singles and 69/74 & 74/79 but they're all out of print now. This might be the best one yet but I would argue for a full disc of 90's tracks. He's experienced a renaissance this past decade and especially now. It should be rewarded with a greatest hits. I would make it something like this:

1. You Belong In Rock and Roll
2. Real Cool World
3. Jump They Say
4. Black Tie, White Noise
5. Miracle Goodnight
6. Buddha of Suburbia
7. The Hearts Filthy Lesson
8. Hallo Spaceboy (Pet Shop Boys remix)
9. Strangers When We Meet
10. Little Wonder
11. Seven Years In Tibet
12. Dead Man Walking
13. I'm Afraid Of Americans
14. I Can't Read
15. Thursday's Child
16. Survive
17. Seven
18. Nature Boy
19. Slow Burn
20. Everyone Says "Hi"

Hallo Spaceboy(Pet Shop Boys Remix) is so incredible. I'd like to see Bowie & PSB work on some more projects together. Let PSB do a whole Bowie remix project.

That's where I am w/ Bowie, @ the very beginning. I like the Best Of, Golden Years is my favorite. I think I'll pick up Station to Station & Young Americans next, that's what I've been told by a "Bowie expert" I know, lol...

Bowie is more relevant now more than ever. Because of the sorry state of the music industry now & bubblegum flooding the airwaves most bands sorry to say will fold ie. The Pixies. Few exceptions are cracking through, thank god for Bowie. I just caught his appearance on last call w/ c. daly & he was incredible. He played "Everyone says Hi" & "Cactus" (pixies) from his new album Heathen.Go out & get it if you haven't already have..
