I just bought this from Amazon

This docu-film focuses on his post-Bitches Brew period. Somebody posted a short clip from it which features an interview from James Mtume hmmm

I own this but I will admit, I haven't watched the whole thing yet. Ughh.
I guess it got pushed to the side but not because it's not cool. It is. I just tend to aquire a lot of music DVDs and some get pushed aside.
Anyway, it's mainly a doc. with live footage interjected here and there. There's lots of good interviews with band members/associates etc so it's pretty informative too. What I've seen I loved. Maybe I'll throw it on this weekend. wink
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

It's excellent. That's the late BB-era Isle of Wight show. Miles in front of a bunch of hippies and the're diggin' the groove. Cameos by a young Joni Mitchell. Latter-day narration by Joni, Herbie Hancock, Airto, Dave Holland and some incomprehensible mish-mash from Carlos Santana.

Performance is not marred in-between by narration. This is all framed around it and in Special Features.

It's a cool documentary. It's interesting the way it looks at that era from different perspectives, ie. bringing in Stanley Crouch who is perhaps the most vocal critic of that era. But it's great to hear the musicians themselves talk about it (as Miles himself never did).

Personally, the Isle of Wight performance isn't one of my favorite gigs from that period, but it's a great document nonetheless.

biggrin Yeah, What He said!!!

I also love that they talk with Pete Cosey, one of the unsung Chicago guitarists that let it rip with Miles....

Great Isle of Wight performance, too!

Haven't watched it recently...

...but their ability to play one tune for almost 30 minutes and keep it interesting is pretty amazing.

The fact that they did it, and be accepted, in the midst of a lineup that included...

The Doors
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Tiny Tim
Melanie
Ten Years After
John Sebastian
The Who

...and other non-Jazz acts, makes it even more amazing.

In all actuality it's not "one tune". It's a series of Bitches Brew themes. performed uninterrupted and the themes are stated after various improvs cues from Miles. Miles is f'ing with the critcs naming it "Call It Anything". I got the times indexed on my Ipod, but heres the set list,

Directions
Bitches Brew
It's About That Time
Sanctuary
Spanish Key
(theme)

Thats what I got from that piece myself as well nod a classic "Fuck You" attitude.

Speaking of critics and interviews, I think I read somewhere that this greasy dude is among the interviewees...

If its true,,,,,oh boy lol
