Anyways. I still think ABBA had an amazing capability to write and perform timeless music. Their early carreer is happy go lucky, but their later stuff is heavier. Just listen to The Visitors and The Day Before You Came.
I love that curve in their carreer.

their songs make me melancholy and jubilant at the same time. i have a hard time listening to them a lot of the time, but i love them. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

Depending on what song. I cannot imagine you going "Ring Ring"; now I am melancholy... The Day Before You Came on the other hand;

I love that curve in their carreer. To bad it was the last curve.... I bought "The Visitors" album (the special edition with the last single release like "Under Attack") recently and its pretty great. Just put both "Abba Gold" and "More Abba Gold" on my MP3 player and it's Abba heaven! I've recently really got into the track "The Day Before You Came". It's got some bite. The title would make you think it's among their most bubble gum tracks with all four members singing along to a catchy chorus! Not even close. The "More Abba Gold" set is interesting because it doesn't have anything that is a signature hit by any means but contains a great mix of sweet and sour. Their happiest sunny pop ("Ring Ring") to their darkest, most paranoid new wave ("Under Attack"). And just about everything in between like the sexy and danceable "Summer Night City" and the melancholy but catchy "One of Us".

Catalogue is overplayed, and I still hate the songs "waterloo" and "dancing queen", but shame they split up, as their late song "the day before you came" is very Morodorish in production. Very different to their earlier productions anyway, and for pop music at least, the synth work was probably on the cutting edge for its time. [Edited 4/13/08 12:53pm]
