4 Sentences in Defense of "4 Minutes"

While I think Justin Timberlake's a douche, I don't understand all the hate for this track. I am particularly feelin' the "If you want it..." hook. With the exception of "Like It or Not", I think it's better than anything on Confessions. I don't have a fourth sentence in defense of the record; I just wanted to sound clever. razz

I'm not in love with the track, but I think it's a good first single. It's extremely commercial and will easily appeal to people outside of Madonna's fanbase. It'll give her the hit she needs.Already,it's getting more airplay and attention than any of the singles from her last two albums. It's doing what a first single is supposed to do.

My favorite part of the song is the little singalong hook right after the chorus...keep it up...keep it up....Ma...donnnnna lol that's cool

my 13 old sister is going crazy...the same with her schoolmates. Seems Madonna generation appeal is still going strong. If Hung up got kids and teens in2 madonna, 4 minutes is the full conquest.

The song is typical Timbaland, but I think that's what Madonna wanted this time around.I don't think she set out to be make a groundbreaking single, she simply wanted a song that's in sync with everything else that's going on in pop music right now.Nothing wrong the occasional radio-friendly,commercial track wink

A very astute observation. But didn't "Hung Up" get a ton of play and attention? confuse

I don't even have a problem with all radio-friendly, commercial tracks. I mean, why do we care if something gets radio play and/or is popular? confuse

That's not the issue. If, say, "Nothing Fails" became a huge hit, I would have loved it. "4 Minutes" is a cheap cash-in on the latest trends, and I think it shows in the music. I'm devastated as a fan. sad

Don't be so devastated. :lindarichman: If you don't like it, don't buy it and listen to the music of hers you do like. shrug It's not the last hope for mankind. shrug

Doesn't he say, "Don't be a pri... ma-donna"? That's just so ridiculously corny that I can't help but laugh every single time. I love that part. lol

Maybe "devastated" is a little too much. I'm certainly disappointed, and I fully expect Hard Candy to be her worst album.

While I certainly don't think we'll have to take a tag day for "M-Dolla" (lol) if you don't support the record, why not listen to it with an open mind and then bitch about how she's sold out? razz

I've said here in the past that my preference is for her to tackle weightier subjects than bumpin' uglies, but apparently she only started consulting the Org for career advice as of 4:44pm today. razz

I did not care for leaked song I had heard weeks previous but I like the version heard in the video, which apparently is the album version.

I am interested in this album more as a Neptunes fan than a Madonna fan.

Madonna's made a career of "selling out", but never has it reeked so much of desperation and sounded... pathetic. I'll buy it because I love Madonna, and I'm hoping there are songs I can appreciate, but based on the 3 songs I've heard so far, that seems to be a tall order this time around. neutral

Sorry I got on the topic of the album... "4 Minutes" isn't a Neptunes production.

I hear ya: she's never relied so heavily on name collaborators before and I, too, was surprised to hear she'd be working with Timbaland and Pharrell (JT? Not so much - she'd already done the Britney thing, after all). But, hey - all good rock stars pass this way someday. I think, at her age, there are only two ways to go: 1) Ditch all pretense and just go for the gusto; 2) Look desperate in, what's to my mind, a worse way: continuing to try and score hipster points by working only with producers with "street cred".

I don't know how old you are, but once I hit my mid-thirties, I was all, "hip-schmip; hipsters are the most miserable bastards I know." lol

I'll buy it because I love Madonna

Then how will she ever learn? rolleyes

I hate all things from that talentless whore, this song is gonna be a smash. Smart move with the Justin duet. He gets lots of hate on here for whatever reason, but this single is going to improve her demographics across the board.

I do hate the Ughs, Yo's, and Oh's that is timberland, but I guess thats the style.

Once again the bitch is a genius when it comes to marketing.

You mean she decided that, since she'd had a mild commercial comeback, it was somehow 1984 again and she had the clout to piss all over the record company that helped make her the star she was, while adopting a new "name" that put the final nail in the coffin of that small portion of the public's belief that she was not a total nutbar?

Or do you mean it in the sense that she somehow thought it was a good idea to marry a 22-year-old girl with whom the only thing she had in common was a love of hotpants?

Correct me if I've misinterpreting you, but am I to understand that you're not a fan?

And is being a "talentless whore" not a talent in itself? hmmm

What if she were just talentless or just a whore? Or is this strictly a critique of her whoredom? What are your criteria for whore-talent? Is it strictly a fellatio-skills thing or do you also factor in orgasm-faking prowess?

I do hate the Ughs, Yo's, and Oh's that is timberland, but I guess thats the style.

You don't know from yos! Download Lauryn Hill's Ex-factor - she gets off a good thirty before the first verse even happens!

Isn't Madonna the defenition of an artist who sold out? when you look up Pop Music there is Madonna. She's not Bjork by any means.
You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna
