(although the song definitely has that Minnie feel to it) I don't know if it was released as a single (If It wasn't, it should have been!)... it's taken from Homecooking(1976), my favorite Sergio Mendes album!!!  It's been issued on CD like alot his work....most are selling it for around $9.99 -11.99....
A lot of the album actually sounds more like a mid seventies Santana album, with alot of Funk and Soul mixed in ..includes bass (and an instrumental track) from Louis Johnson on several cuts (the First Brothers Johnson album had just dropped around the same time), as well as Michael Sembello (Wonderlove), Dennis Budimir, and Oscar Castro Neves on guitars, Sergio Mendes and Dave Grusin ridin the Keyboards, Harvey Mason on drums, etc.... ... Iam a huge fan of producer Peter Wolf, so I loved alot of his work with Sergio on "brasil 86".
Some killer, synclavier filled tracks on there. with "nonstop" being a good pop song, quite like Robbie Nevilles "c'est la vie" in style. Both "nonstop" and "c'est la vie" came out in 1986 so not sure who copied who, but both sound quite similar. Got the followup "arara" aswell, which is more like his earlier albums  | |

Arara is nice too, I dig their versions of Miltion Nascimento's "Cinnamon and Clover" and the Ivan Lins tune, "The Island"...I've always loved Patti Austin's version on her album, but I think this one is comparable.... ... Not surprising you like the non 80's sounding cuts on "brasil 86". Dont mind "your smile" "the river" etc.. Not my thing, but I still dig the production, and they are growing on me slowly. "Take this love" and "it hurts a whole lot more" split the album into hi-tech AOR, whilst "nonstop" and "daylight" are mid 80's pop. Certainly cant say the album is samey. Just very mid 80's LOL | |
