It wouldn't surprise me if Michael could play something, he's obviously a musical guy.

But I've seen Tito play guitar, I've heard it. And he's good. It's just strange that people assume Michael is excellent on keyboards, etc, when there's no real evidence of it other than a photo or a secondhand story.

As for the drums, anyone can keep a basic beat going. I'm sure Michael can do that. Even Madonna can do that. She played drums in a band for a while. Michael was probably kidding himself though when he said he can play. Keep a primitive beat going for a few minutes? Sure. Play? I doubt it.

The interview is from mid 1971... When he was around 13... the various pictures I'm talking about have been taken at various times all through the 70's, and nothing tells you that in ALL THE PICTURES he was still "trying to learn how to play"...

Prince started learning instruments around the same age if I can remember ???


And the interview said clearly : Michael plays drums. He says he is learning piano too. "It's not hard. You just have to put your mind to what you doin'; that's all there is to it"

I just took a look at that article. You obviously regard it as credible. Well, in it Michael tells the story, in detail, of how Diana Ross discovered the Jackson 5. Here's the quote. "We started entering talent shows, and we won every one we entered, and then we did this benefit for the mayor [Richard Hatcher of Gary, Ind.], and Diana Ross was in the audience, and afterward we was in the dressin' room and Diana Ross knocked on the door, and she brought us to Motown in Detroit and that was it" Such a detailed account. A 37 year old puff piece that has obviously not been researched one bit. Dude, this is worse than pathetic. It's laughable.

Everybody knows that the Jacksons have lied about 2 major things :
-"who discovered them", and "Michael Jackson's age"...


This is what made the Jackson 5 legendary... Since day one, the public has constantly been doubtful about these 2 things...

But in no way, this article is assuming that what Michael Jackson said concerning isntruments was a lie or like the article said neither phony nor swellheaded merely the truth.
But you have decided to take the Diana Ross story as an example to discredit the ENTIRE interview and of course discredit the part where Michael claimed that he can play drums and was learning piano as well...

Just because the Jackson 5 have lied since day one about "who discovered them" means automatically that they have lied about EVERYTHING they said in this interview...

That makes no sense...



And taking the facts that :
-at that time they were constantly recording in studio and working with musicians
-at that time Randy Jackson the youngest brother learned playing various instruments from these musicians...
-and the fact that Motown never tried to promote Michael as an instrumentalist at ALL

It sounds very credible that Michael was in fact learning how to play piano since he were around musicians everyday, all day...

But taking the Diana Ross story to discredit his claim that he was actually learning instrument at that time is another lame attempt from you my friend ... Just pathetic

There is no reason to doubt about that claim, and there is no reason for Michael to lie specifically about the fact he could play drums, and was learning piano since Motown never tried to promote Michael as an instrumentalist like Stevie Wonder by example...

Just because he lied about the Diana Ross story and his age, means that he lied about absolutly everything he said... Just plain lame...

To read this article you'd think the Jacksons spent all their time in the sunshine playing basketball and trampolining. The truth is they were WORKING all day every day and not getting on well at all, but this is a Motown approved piece, as all their press was in those days, so you get an idealized (and fabricated) picture instead. It was all an illusion. Motown would stage pictures of them playing pool and send them out to the media who were happy to go along selling the fairy tale. No-one should take this kind of article seriously. They were trained to lie about EVERYTHING! Just look at the hobbies Michael claims to have had back then. Everything from playing basketball to rock climbing.

Lets be honest here Michael hasnt even sang live most of the time either! Look at his Late Teen - Now, the guy has lip synced basically every single tv appearances. Forget the instruments, the guy really cant sing live either!

He is basically a studio musican, who needs to sing in sections with re-do's.

Another funny thing is as an example is the "live" USA for Africa, everyone just showed up and did their parts. One or a few takes. Everyone except Michael, he was the only one to do his over & over and that footage we see in the video is him lip syncing.

The guy is really all smoke & mirrors. A house of cards that has basially fallen.
